IUD - option to H for adeno?

Hi ladies, I have recently been diagnosed with focal adenomyosis and have been advised to have an IUD inserted. I would love to hear from anyone who has been down this path and learn what her experience was.

Re: IUD - option to H for adeno?

I have adeno and was given the option of an IUD with a 50% chance of it lessening bleeding but not helping cramping or pain. I decided against it since our insurance didn't cover it for any reason and we just didn't have the money for it.

Re: Has anyone tried the mirena iud for treatment?

I just had an IUD placed (yesterday...it was some of the most awful pain I have felt) to treat the adeno. I'm honestly not really sure how the IUD is supposed to help but my Dr. said it was pretty much the only thing I can do especially since we are trying to save my fertility. If anyone else has info on how an IUD may help adeno I would also like to know

Hi Liberty23. If you google Mirena, it explains how progesterone is supposed to relieve the symptoms.

Hang in there. Hope it works for you; let us know how you go

Re: IUD - option to H for adeno?

I had a Mirena fitted as treatment for adenomyosis and it stopped the pain and bleeding for 3 months.
Sadly the pain came back although the bleeding didnt, so gynea suggested hysterectomy

I had it done a week ago and they removed the mirena at the same time.
I am in less pain now than i ever was with the adeno

I would give the coil a go, it may work for you, its worth a try before you go down the surgery route.

Re: IUD - option to H for adeno?

I have the Mirena which was used to control heavier bleeding in the beginning (since the doc just gave the normal "it's just you getting older speech"). It worked for 3 years, but now I have severe right side pelvic pain and have been diagnosed with adeno. I was glad it gave me time, but if insurance doesn't cover it, it can be costly as well. Since I can't live on vicodin and aleve, my only other option is a TAH. Good luck!

My experience is pretty much exactly the same. The Mirena gave me time to think, explore my options, and find an incredible surgeon who listened to me. I had it for just over a year before I went for the hyst and I feel great now. I'm very glad I had the Mirena.
