30 w/ HRT - Climara

I just turned 30 in Feb. On June 28 I had a LSH BSO - instant menopause. I was adamant pre surg that I was not going to do HRT (I had PCOS and was positive what female parts I had werent working right anyway so if I wasn't getting hormones, I didn't need them). I also have not read good things about long term use HRT (5+years). My physician thought better of my request and directly post op a patch was placed on me - Climara .1mg. It's a good thing - 3 days post op the stupid thing fell off me and I left it off. 5 hours later I had a hot flash from hell that literally left my head spinning. Called my doc, put on another patch. Ugh. But here's my problem. This patch is supposed to last me a week. It lasts on my skin, 3 days tops. I know there are alternative approaches, but my question to you all is at my age (30), are there some hormone therapys that work better with Long Term use as opposed to if I were older?

Re: 30 w/ HRT - Climara

If you're having problems with the Climara sticking, perhaps you could ask your doc about trying a different patch. I have heard good things about the Vivelle Dot. It seems to have a better success rate as far as adhesion goes.

Re: 30 w/ HRT - Climara

I don't know much about hormone therapy but I think it's just seeing what works best for you. I never thought I would need hormones because I was 32 (35 now) and kept both my ovaries. Talk to your dr about your concerns over long term use and the risks. I'm on vivelle dot patch.05 and it works great for me. I use tegaderm adhesives and the patch lasts the 3.5 days with no problem and no sticky residue.
