Too many choices -- messing w/my head

Three different doctors -- three different opinions.

I'm more confused now than I was two months ago. Is it normal to be constantly flip-flopping my decision as to how much I should have removed during my surgery? Or is this some type of crazy mid-life crisis setting in? I just voted for Sanjaya on American Idol (what the heck?) and I'll be 50 in October!!!!!!!

One minute I want it all out and then the next I want just the tumor removed (it has to be biopsied.)

Why is it so darn hard just to make a decision and commit to it? I've never had this problem before!

Too many choices -- messing w/my head

Hi Love, I know exactly what you are saying. We are the same age so maybe that has something to do with it. It is such a personal decission that no one can really help you with, but I will be happy to tell you how I came up with my decission to get rid of all my baggage. I do still have one ovary, but not by my choice. I have had super bad periods for several years, heavy bleeding, horrible cramps, and in bed for two to three days a month with the pain. In the last year it has gotten much worse, I would bleed two weeks out of the month, and the pain was so hurrendus that it put me in the emergency room three times. That was it, at 49 i decidded that life was not fun anymore and my periods were ruling me. I struggled with all the options, and the only one that gave me the most odds of getting rid of my problems was the hyst. Cancer runs in my family rampid, ovarien and cervical. I got the cervical and had to have surgery for it. I was told it could come back so when I went over the options I realized that if I got rid of the cervix that would eleminate one of the major worries. Since I still have one ovary due to my DR. not being able to reach it and the bleeding was really bad she had to give up, so I do still have that to worrie about, but no more pain!!Getting rid of all your junk will not be a way to make sure you don't get cancer again, but it sure helps ease my mind. I know that if you research all your options you will make the right choice. Best of luck to you!!

If your doctors are giving the option of what to have removed, my personal opinion would be to have the surgeon remove as little as possible -- to let whatever isn't diseased remain.

You are normal. I think most of us are all over the place when making this decision. One day I was going to have the uterus only removed. The next, it was everything goes. It was good that I had several weeks to decide. In the end, I went with everything goes because that felt right for me. Get all the information you can, ask questions, and go with your gut.
