Effexor for anxiety, and hot flashes?

My Docotr prescribed effexor for me as I can't take estrogen do to blood clots and I have awful anxiety panic attacks, and hot flashes, not sleeping, and night sweats. Also have been really down and lost interest in just about everything.

Has anyone had this problem and has anyone used this drug? I really hate taking new things.

Thanks for looking

Re: Effexor for anxiety, and hot flashes?

Quincey -

I take Effexor due to clinical depression. It was the 3rd anti-d that my counsellor and I tried. The one thing about anti-d's is you react differently to them so you might have to get switched to something else if you have a reaction. It does help with my hot flashes. It can interfere with libido.

Hope you find what works for you.

Re: Effexor for anxiety, and hot flashes?

I have a blood clotting disorder and am unable to take any form of HRT. I took Effexor for 4 years or so after my hysterectomy and I will say it definitely helped to control the frequency and intensity of my hot flashes.

After taking it for several years, and with the help of my doctor, I weaned myself off the drug and I'm doing fine. I still get hot flashes on occasion, but they are few and far between.

Good luck. I hope it works for you.

Re: Effexor for anxiety, and hot flashes?

I'm also taking effexor for anti d and hot flash control. Was on 37.5 for a month then moved to 75 mg now-seems to be great so far-it replaced my lexapro but I do seem to have more energy on it wi a decreased appetite and fewer meno symptoms.
It is expensive though even wi good insurance! Ugh. However, getting relief is priceless, eh?

Re: Effexor for anxiety, and hot flashes?

Thanks for responding. I took one last night and was really spacey this morning. I guess it takes time. I also take other xanax for anxiety. I hope all this helps because I have a plane to go on in the summer, not a good place for a panic attack. lol

I take mine at night so I don't have the morning spaceyness or anything like that. I take xanax with it sometimes too if my anxiety is really high.

Talk to your Dr. if you can adjust the time.
