St. Patty's Day and I will be on the other side

Hi All! Well, yesterday I found out that my biopsy results were wonderfully negative for cancer/polyps. Thank God! So, I forge ahead, looking so forward to this St. Patty's Day--TAH here I come!

I have had an emergency surgery for a ruptured ovary, 5 laps/lasers for endo followed by 3 mos. of drug treatment--Synerel, a miscarriage then a beautiful (and very easy-going) daughter, 2 more laps/lasers for endo, and another miscarriage then another beautiful daughter (who is NOT so easy-going--at all!). I am truly thankful for my wonderful DH and the girls! They were miracles!

I just turned 40 in January and my youngest daughter is 7 yrs. of age. I have been in PURE AGONY since the year after she was born. I bit the bullet and dealt with the pain (making me faint at times). Docs and specialists wanted to do more surgery and drug therapy for the endo--I said the next surgery will be for removal of my parts--don't need 'em don't want 'em. Well, I was soooo aggravated I stopped going to the docs for 5 years.

Decided to visit a new one on 2/11--in addition to the non-stop pain, my periods are like that old BATTERY BUNNY!--It keeps going and going! Never knowing when it will come and go (never left long enough!). Use a tampon? What are those . . . oh I remember now . . . those things that would just flow right out of me. Needless to say . . . I'VE WAITED LONG ENOUGH! Don't wheel me into that OR--LET ME DANCE IN!

Guess I should get to my concern--HRT. Will I have to be on that to feel good? (I'm crabby, moody and snap at my family now because I feel like crap!) I'm 40 and just don't know what's best--all those pros and cons and inconclusive stuff regarding cancer, etc. I am truly overwhelmed! I currently have only one ovary--which, with my moods/lack of patience, I'm skeptical as to how well it is functioning. HELP-- should I have a patch after surgery? What to do, what to do????

One more thing . . . we have a family vacation planned for 11 weeks post-op--it's out of the country--nothing but pools, ocean and beach--AHHHHHHH--will the surgery post a problem with being able to go? Will I be able to go into the pools and ocean? I know I may not be as energetic as I'd like.

Sorry for the length of this--justed wanted, no needed, to express my thoughts of what I'm going to do and seek advice for my two questions. Family (except for hubby and kids) just don't understand how crappy I always feel, blah blah blah, too young, blah blah . . . They basically think I'm NUTS for being excited about this surgery!

Any input would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH FOR THIS AWESOME WEBSITE!

Hi,

You've really been through a lot and I'm glad you're finally going to get some relief! Happy St. Patricks day!!!

As for the HRT, you and your doctor should decided what the best options are for you. I kept both of my ovaries, so I'm not too well versed in HRT, but there is a message board on this site called the Hormone Jungle where the ladies are steeped in the law of the jungle, so to speak.

The vacation sounds wonderful! In my opinion, you should be able to enjoy yourself. Just take it easy and let your family deal with the luggage. As for swimming, there shouldn't be a problem. Most ladies are released for bathing at 4 to 6 weeks. But be sure to consult your doctor about both the trip and the swimming issue. Only s/he knows the extent of your surgery and what you'll need to watch out for.

Best wishes and s,

Lisa

St. Patty's Day and I will be on the other side

Hi webewath,

Welcome to Hyster Sisters!!

I'm glad that you found us and posted to introduce yourself. Congratulations on the negative biopsy results!!

You certainly have been through alot in the last few years, and to be in constant pain for 6 years must contribute to your bad moods. Just being pain-free should help quite a bit, I would think.

But, you'll need to talk to your doctor about whether you will be allowed to use HRT right away, since apparently estrogen feeds the endo, and most doctors won't put you on any HRT until several months later.

As for your vacation - most of us are released to go back to work by 6 to 8 weeks following surgery. As long as you don't have any complications, and your doctor has OK'd your trip, you would be fine. (I would want to be sure that there was good medical care available, just in case it was needed, though).

Have you read our pre-op and post-op hints yet? You can find them by clicking onto the drop-down menu at the top right of this page. Please keep on reading and posting any questions you may have. We'll do our best to help.
