it's been awhile since i've joined and it has been hard for me to finally accept the need for surgery. i was first told in 1988, while i was in nursing school, that i needed a hysterectomy, although i had no real diagnoses other than endometritis which had caused 4 months of heavy bleeding. finally in 1997 i was diagnosed with endometriosis, PCOS, fibroids, but it took having a stent for blocked arteries (no family history, am not obese) to realize what my procastination has done to my body, due in large part to the PCOS. i know i need this, but even though i am a nurse and understand the necessity, i feel that my heart is going to break. i like the parts i've been given, they have served me well in giving me a great family. also, i am terrified, the same as everyone else, maybe even more, as i have found that nurses are not necessarily treated any better than anyone else, but sometimes worse because it's assumed they are supposed to know everything and be professional, even as a patient (i was actually told this when at laproscopy in 1997). i know this is too long, but thanks so much for being here.

Rhonda,
I'm glad to know that you are letting us all know about your surgery. This decision has been hard for you..........I'm amazed that an RN is supposed to be treated "differently." To me a patient is a patient. We are here for you every step of the way. I do believe that once this is all over and your recovery is past that you will feel so much healthier. What a difference in my life.........and I wish the same good health to you!

Hugs to you,

Thanks for sharing you feelings. This site has helped me sssoooo much. I hope this makes you feel better. I am a Licensed Practical Nurse and I was very scared at first also. I have even taken care of a hyst pt while in nursing school. I thought I should be able to handle this. This web site has given me much needed support. I am scheduled for 3-18-02 and right now am pretty calm, but I am sure as it gets closer , I will start to get more nervous. So many of my fears and thoughts have been put to rest by using this web site, and I hope it will help you also.
