Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Apr 23, 2017

My radical hysterectomy is Wednesday and I am nervous. I'm all in my head, mourning a chapter of life that is over and probably being a little dramatic but it's a big deal to me. Im 33, suffered from endometriosis for over 15 years and am ready to live a pain free life, it's just stressful. I suppose I'm mainly worried about the recovery.

To any other ladies in this position, my advice is to just breathe, remain optimistic and know you're not alone. We're all in this together.

I am having a Divinci surgery tomorrow afternoon. The doctor told me if the pathologist finds no cancer he will take everything but leave my left ovary. I have polyps in my uterus and a growth on my right ovary the size of a grapefruit. All of my markers came back normal. I am 65 and it will be so nice to not have the bleeding I have been going through for the past 12 weeks. Yes I am anxious.

I'm having a total hysterectomy and both ovaries as well on Thursday. Not sleeping well at the moment! I swing between calm acceptance and sheer panic but I'm sure this is the best thing to do given the advice I have received. I really can't wait for it all to be over.

Good morning!

am having a TAH, urethra lift, rectocele repair as well as sacrocolpopexy this Wednesday (yes, everything possible has prolapsed!).

I am nervous about the anesthesia, my doctor is planning on a 3 hours surgery.

Not looking forward to the liquid diet on Tuesday, and then nothing till my 11am surgery time on Wednesday...

How are you planning to stay calm in the days of your upcoming surgery? I am still working tomorrow and most of Tuesday, but would love to hear ideas.

Thanks!

Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Apr 23, 2017

Hi ladies,

I am having my hysterectomy and BSO on Tuesday. Plan is to keep ovaries, as they are in good shape. I have an atypical case of confluent fibroids that cause severe bleeding. I'm also 29 and have no children, either. This is bittersweet for me because even though I don't want children, I'd still like the option. Unfortunately, my uterus has decided for me. (**** thing!) My surgeon was hopeful that the procedure could be done laparoscopically, but after her exam- she thinks there is a possibility that it will be converted to open. I also have lots of adhesions that will also be addressed. My biggest concern is not knowing what the definitive procedure will be. And, I won't know til I wake up! I'm a planner and a little "Type A" so I like to know what to expect. Recoveries for both surgeries are vastly different (I had an emergent abdominal myomectomy in 10/2014).
Sending well wishes to all you ladies preparing for surgery this week

Can you find some me-time before your surgery?

Maybe a facial or going to a movie or just being lazy? I loved making chicken soup yesterday, I found that very calming and now I have individual portions in the freezer!

Best wishes!

I totally understand what you're saying! "Mourning a chapter of life that is over." The finality of putting something behind you that has controlled your life for so many years is a total loss. My fibroids have controlled and ruined my life for the last four years! Saying goodbye to them makes me happy and sad, at the same time. Happy to get rid of pain and bleeding, but sad that I lost the battle against them. I think once our surgeries are over, we will be so thrilled that the mourning process will be easier than we think (I'm hopeful anyways!) best of luck to you!

I hear you and feel for you. I would probably prepare for the abdominal approach and its longer recovery time. Then, when you wake up and your surgery was able to be done laparoscopically, you will be pleasantly surprised. Do you think you can "trick" yourself into doing this?

Best wishes!
