Area above incision raised!?

Hello! I had a TAH w/ no complications or infections this past Nov 9th, with a horizontal incision. I have noticed my incision is raised, but only above the incision!? It isn't red or itchy, just not sure if it's muscle healing, scar tissue or if the skin was pulled too tight when stitching. I'm hoping it will decrease once everything is healed internally. Only reason I'm concerned is because if I wear a pair of thin pants, I notice it thru the pants. Not sure if it's a doctor type issue to call because I am healing quite well otherwise. I'm interested if this is something other women have had happen to them and the final outcome after completely healing. Thanks!

Re: Area above incision raised!?

hello... just want to make sure I understand...are you talking about some puffed up skin just above the horizontal incision? (kind of like an upper lip of sorts??) If so, I have that same thing..in fact I had a 'pooch' before the surgery and now this...which I am calling my 'second pooch' because it looks just like a roll of fat. (not huge...but definitely a roll). I asked the Dr. about it today at my 4 week post op and he said that it is basically there because the skin was there before but kind of laid down flat on the muscle, but that the incision is kind of 'fixed' in place causing this skin to kind of puff up. He said as the incision heals the puffiness should start to go down.

if that ISN'T what you are talking about..I hope someone else can answer your question.

good luck!

Thank you for responding!!! I didn't have much of a 'pooch' before though, but I have an upper lip now. I was hoping it was just how things were stitched together and then as your doc said... when the incision heals the puffiness should go down. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Thank you!

Re: Area above incision raised!?

I think what you are describing is the "normal" pouch that everyone has. I find it very annoying and unsightly. As a person who normally has a flat stomach, I have nothing to wear and feel ridiculous. My doctor assured me it will flatten out, but I gather from this site it can take some time!

Re: Area above incision raised!?

Hi,
I had my TAH on aug 30, 2011. I have quite a thick, hard roll that hangs over my incision. I'm 5'9" and now weigh 120. I lost 10 pounds after my surgery, so I've never been overweight in my life. I can't wear pants yet, and I'm wondering if we should be doing some kind of tissue massage down there. I'm taking arnica now too for inflammation. It's been almost eight weeks and I don't look so good
