Vision issue after Da Vinci?

I had a Da Vinci robotic assisted hysterectomy on July 6th. Somewhere on this sight I read that others that had this procedure done had some kind of goop put in their eyes to help prevent some kind of eye damage.

Does anybody know what that damage is? I have a round spot in my right eye a bit like a donut that is like a bright flashlight had been shone directly in my eye and it has not gone away. When my eye is open my field of vision within the area is darker than the rest of my field of vision.

I'm also having what feels like sinus pressure around my right eye as well.

Has anybody experienced this and if so do you know what it is? I'm probably going to make an appointment with an opthamologist tomorrow, but thought I would ask here if anybody has experienced this or if anybody knows what eye issues the goop was to prevent?

Thanks!

Oriana -

I am sorry to hear you are experiencing eye pressure.

I never had anything put in my eyes or had to put anything in my eyes. It's a side effect I haven't heard of.

Have you checked with your Dr. about it?

Re: Vision issue after Da Vinci?

I saw an opthamologist yesterday. He said it appears I either have a fluid build up or a small hole in my retina possibly caused by the gel in my eye pulling away from my retina a bit.

He didn't seem too convinced it was a direct result of the surgery. He said it could be possible that being at that incline could have put my eye in a position that could cause the issue, but felt it was more likely a result of stress.

I didn't notice it until 4 days after surgery.

I have to see a retina specialist on Friday about it, to see if it requires surgery. Let's hope not!

Thanks for the reply and hugs!

I had a friend who had a detached retina, hers did require surgery. As you said hoping it doesn't require that for you.
