Not happy at all....but I will do it!

I have known since March that I would be having a hysterectomy and in April when I saw my doctor she told me that I would only have to do an enema and a douch the night before. I was SO happy... what little bowel prep . I thought whew I can do this.
So today I go in for my pre-op and she drops the bomb shell that I have to drink 8 ounces of fleet phospho - soda otion: (in two 4 ounce servings 6 hours a part), a liquid diet all day Tuesday and that "I better stay close to home as I will be pooping a lot" . She also told me to buy tucks pads to "sooth" my bottom .

Better knowing all this only for a week rather than two months!

I also learned today that she will be taking my cervix for sure. But, at least I get to keep those ovaries.

On another note...

I go in to the "room" and my nurse said to me.. so what kind of surgery are you having? I said that I was going to have a hysterectomy. She said "I want one. I'm so tired of having a period". So I asked her if she would like all the problems I have had to get to this point too. She said no. I told her to be happy to have a "normal" period and not the problems I have had. It is not something I would wish onto anybody. But I was really surprised.

Stacey,

I'm so sorry that your bowel prep isn't going to be as easy as you had been told. Wonder what changed the doctor's mind?

I'm also glad that you were able to explain things to his nurse - she should know that a hyst is major surgery, and should never be done if there's not a very good medical reason.

Oh, dear!! I know you don't want to hear this, but everything will be fine! It is just one day, and everything after that will be worth it (I hope!!!)

I don't have a lot of tolerance for ignorant people like that -- a friend of mine (24 y.o.) said "I don't want MY uterus anymore" when I was making a joke about no more bc pills, tampons, or football gear (trying to look on the bright side of things.) I thought, hey, come visit me on June 25 and tell me how you feel then! Sheesh!

Take care!
