1 week post hysterectomy: Sleeping on my side?

Hello ladies! I had a full hysterectomy a week ago, complete with vertical staples. I was wondering how long it will be before I can start sleeping on my side again. I tried it once, and the pain said no.

Re: Sleeping Post-op

Starting around 1.5 weeks post op, I could lay on my side for an hour or two as long as I was wearing my binder. Before that, it just hurt too much. At 3.5 weeks, I could sleep on my side without the binder, but I was kind of achy when I got up.

Re: Sleeping Post-op

You can try tucking a folded up blanket or pillow under your belly. I ended up having to mostly sleep on my side due to pain being mostly in one side and couldn't lay on my back and this was the only way I didn't feel pulling

Re: 1 week post hysterectomy: Sleeping on my side?

I'm 3 1/2 weeks and sleep on my side mist of the night. Pillows under my tummy or right up against it seem to help. I slept in my recliner for 2 weeks just because it was the most comfortable position and I wouldn't wake hubby getting up to pee all night or rearranging pillows or whatever.

Re: 1 week post hysterectomy: Sleeping on my side?

I am 4.5 weeks post op after a TAH and BSO and I am just now being able to sleep on my side, but I have my feather pillow tucked underneath it. Sometimes it still twinges. I am still in a binder, Dr wants me to continue with the binder for a bit. Binder is frustrating some, but since I am just now up and moving well, I realize the binder helps me a lot to make me feel secure that it's all held in place.. Lol.. Anyways.. Just take it slow and you will know when you can sleep on side, when the pain is bearable or not.

Re: 1 week post hysterectomy: Sleeping on my side?

I'm two weeks out. Sometimes I can sleep on my side, sometimes not. It varies each night. This morning I woke up on my stomach and freaked out! But all was okay. I guess our bodies have a mind of their own.
