Nerve damage and Lyrica
Before I was diagnosed, I was on Percocet 5/375, 2 every 4 hrs w/o relief. I then went to Demerol 100 mg every 4 hours with a little more relief but ended up having 2 anaphylactic reactions to the sulfa component in both of them. Yes, they DO have a sulfa in them and no matter what doc or nurse looks at you funny, it is buried in the PDR and THANKFULLY found by a PA working the ER that lonely night. Scary, as my airway was almost blocked by the time I got there. He started me on Fentanyl 25 mcg, and I'm up to 50 right now.
I was started on Cymbalta at first, but couldn't handle even 30 mg once a day and they wanted me on 60 BID. I had to take Zofran with it or I'd become horribly ill. I had a failed sympathetic plexus block. It lasted less than a day. Now, I've just started Neurontin and am taking 300 mg every night. Next week, it'll be 300 twice daily and then the week after, three times daily. I tend to react severely to medication so they're going slow. If this doesn't work, we'll go to Lyrica. However, my insurance requires a failed Neurontin. I sooooo hope the Neurontin works, as it's a $6 copay vs $60 for the Lyrica!
Anyone else getting spent on copays, deductibles, out of pockets, meds, gas, etc....?? I drive an hour to work, then 2 hrs in the opposite direction to the dr. This week, I've been to the doc every day and to my ACLS class at work twice. I've spent $100 in gas. My med copay this month is $309 and quickly rising. I'm looking at another surgery SOON, and I'm off work right now with no time built up or FMLA. It gets scary!

Nerve damage and Lyrica
Margot, I have only tried Trileptal and I am no longer taking it. I have been completely off of it for about 2 weeks and this is the first week I have lost weight at Weight Watchers in quite awhile. I think part of the reason is that weight gain is not only listed as a side effect of the Trileptal but also for the nerve block due to the steroids. I have asked the Drs how long that side effect will last after the nerve block and no one can give me an answer. I'm scheduled for another nerve block on Monday. I can only imagine how much I'll gain after this one!!!

Nerve damage and Lyrica
Michelle...
I had 3 spinal nerve blocks in 3 months at the end of last year, and I've been having trouble losing weight, too. They never told me that weight gain could be an issue! They didn't mention it with the Lyrica either, but at least I could read about that in the notes from the pharmacy. And...they lecture me about how my back would feel better if I lost weight! I hope your nerve block on Monday does you some good, and doesn't stop you from losing weight.
Kristy...I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. $309 is a giant co-pay! Being sick is quite expensive, isn't it? We had to take out a second mortgage on our house to pay for all of my medical bills last year. I sure hope that the neurontin does it for you. What is a sympathetic plexus block?
