Re: I can't lose weight!

I am up 10 lbs but I think it's fluids. My doc told me to keep it to 1600 calories a day. No processed foods or sugar. He thinks it causes infections. But I am focusing on eating what appeals to me for the next week or so.

Re: I can't lose weight!

The exercise limitations have limited my ability to lose weight. But fortunately I haven't gained weight. The "big belly" you see may be more from post-op swelling and not because your abdomen is fat. My belly is still always smaller in the morning and larger in PM. Although some of my belly size is due to the fact that I can't start doing ab work for another few weeks. Can't wait to tone the abs.

Re: I can't lose weight!

I was a slow healer & still have some swelly belly even after 14 months, but I did get off the extra 21 lbs I put on post surgery in the end. Since Christmas I've stuck to 1200 calories & at least 15 mins sweat making exercise daily. Think metabolism seriously slowed since TAH but it is do-able, just need to change eating habits a bit & hey presto! Don't lose heart, be patient til you're strong enough, then you can do it

Re: I can't lose weight!

There was a poster awhile back who is over 6 months in recovery and was talking about how after she exercises she has a bigger belly for awhile, it seems to be a natural reaction of the body to retain fluid when it's stressed like that. Someone else chimed in they noticed the same thing. You might do a search on 'exercise' and 'swelly belly' for the site and see what comes up.
