Narcotic reactions
I am an anomoly. I have an atypical response to all narcotics - it increases sensations, including pain. I had a previous myomectomy and was in hell for three days, and just had another - found this site while researching options, and realized other women wanted to get away from the narcotics as well. So here is some information. My condition is called a paradoxical reaction and the name for the problem is "opioid induced hyperalgesia". There is lots of information on the web about it, but it took me 11 years to find the name for it. Although I didn't have a hysterectomy, I did have major surgery, and post op was able to control my pain with Tylenol and Ibuprofin, plus an anti-spasmodic for my bladder. I went through such horrible torture the first time on narcotics - no one believed that they were increasing my pain. I hope no one else has to endure that.
