Pain Levels
How is everyone handling pain? I am 5 days da Vinci post op and still have pain. I find I'm taking my pain meds quite regularly and hoping this is normal.
Dr said during preop that most people only needed Motrin to help them through. My pain is tightness, throbbing and burning, especially after being up and around a few hours. I feel it deep inside my belly Shifting also hurts, but I feel this is all normal healing pains as I'm not spotting or anything.
I'm just worried that I am not handling pain well or if I need more meds for longer? What is a normal time to feel these pangs and crampyness?

Re: Pain Levels
Everyone is different. You are still early in recovery so don't be too hard on yourself. I took percocet and motrin 600 pretty regularly for a week and then took the motrin 600 and the occasional percocet for another week. Once I was cleared to drive I only took the percocet at bedtime if the pain was too much. First day I returned to work I had to go home and take the last of my percocet and put a heating pad on my belly.

Re: Pain Levels
I think it can vary a lot for each person.
I had the da Vinci two weeks ago today. I had a lot of intense cramping, like awful periods the first few days, then gradually better, then worse again.
This past Saturday was the first time I didn't take any percoset until evening. But Sunday morning, I woke up early with awful cramping again and was on both ibuprofen and percoset all day long. I just felt awful the entire day. And I don't think it was bowel stuff; I was "going" just fine. I hadn't tried to do anything on the no-no list either, although I was very stressed out.
Yesterday, I felt a bit better. Today I have not yet had anything other than ibuprofen.
I just keep trying to reminding myself of this: Try not to compare your recovery to that of others too much.
I think there is a range of "normal" healing, even for the da Vinci. Unfortunately, I seem to be in the slow-track range, but I am not having any signs that the doc said to call about.

Re: Pain Levels
Thanks so much everyone.. it helps knowing that I'm not alone on these symptoms. I was starting to worry that I'm not healing properly, or what I'm feeling is just something that I need to feel and that I'm over reacting to what pain is.
There is definitely cramping and burning, but I'm having normal BM's. Like you said, its like period cramps but very intense. I'm still on Gas X for good measure to help with that, and it does seem to work.
I can't wait to sleep back in my bed again. That's what I miss the most! Stretching out on the bed is still too much for me, no matter how many pillows I pack around me.

Re: Pain Levels
Yes it does vary because during my pre-op I read alot of stories about the pain to expect making sure I know what I was dealing with afterwards.
And I'm 1 month post-op today from LAVH removed uterus and cervix. The only pain I have had is GAS and that was in the first couple of days I only took Percocet on my 2 day home and I vowed too never take those again...Dr said it had the opposite side effect on me (I was around the house cleaning and wiping walls) YESSS day 2 home from surgery....Everything else I'm been through or going through Insomia, swelly belly, constipation, sore legs and calves, cold during the day, hot at night and evening crying is either annoying or uncomfortable...but no pain I've broken my pinky toe several times now that was very painful too me.....My biggest problem is FATIGUE!
