5 days post hysterectomy - yeast infection

I am post op day 5 from my DaVinci TVH with both ovaries still intact. I feel amazing....I have absolutely no pain, am voiding without issue, having bowel movements, sleeping great, have had zero pain meds at all even after surgery, no spotting, zero gas pain and no swollen belly.......the only reason I can tell I have had something done is it itches down there. Are yeast infections normal after a hysterectomy or is it just the antibiotics used preop?? I have had maybe 2 yeast infections in my life....both after antibiotics. Any advice greatly appreciated. I will be calling my doc Monday for further instructions but thought I would jump on hear and see what the "norm" is. Thank you for any input

Re: yeast infection

I'm having some irritation "down there" too, and my surgery was the day after yours. Really curious to see what kind of replies you get. My vaj hates antibiotics.

I haven't had itching, but I've read others saying the healing stitches inside on the vaginal cuff can cause itching. If it's yeast, your dr will want to see you and swab your vagina to confirm because you can't insert the over the counter creams (unless your dr says to of course) and they will likely give you a prescription for Diflucan. Hope you feel better soon, sounds like you're doing awesome except this!

Re: yeast infection

I don' know about "normal" but it is common. In part the antibiotics, and depending on which surgery it can be just all they do in/around the vagina.

I myself had a stubborn yeast infection about a week after, took 2 doses of the one time pill and 3 weeks of the external cream to get rid of mine. I recommend following through with your doctor to be safe, as you mentioned, yeast infections aren't common for you.

*hugs* and good luck!

Re: yeast infection

I will tell you about a week and a half after surgery I developed what I call a raging yeast infection! Oh my....I've had them in the past but never like this! I did otc cream and took 3 diflucin pills and she still had to give me a prescription cream that next week. Finally kicked it, but it was a challenge! Good luck!

yeast infection

So I have a yeast infection and the doc is calling me in an RX for diflucan. He said I can use any OTC creme for external relief. Which creme is working best for you sisters with yeast infections after hysterectomy? Thank you in advance

Re: 5 days post hysterectomy - yeast infection

I took my diflucan yesterday and am already feeling better, I have a lot of experience with yeast infections from a past with a high sugar intake. You can get Diflucan over the counter here. Pretty sure the reason I have one now is all the pad wearing which means no air circulation in that area as my sugar intake is well down and has been for some months now. To be honest the best cream I found was a natural one that would probably not be approved by most doctors as it's not one you buy at the pharmacy. It's called Kolorex Intimate Care Cream and is made in New Zealand, it smells nice and although I get a momentary irritation when I put it on that clears quickly and soothes.
