dont know what to do

I am scheduled to have a total hysterectomy on May 23, 2003, due to fibristic tumors, my right ovarie is behind my uterus, my left ovarie has a tumor the size of an apple, and a chronic uterin infection. I'm only 24 and I have no idea what I'm in for. I know it may stupid, but I'm really scared. You hear so many conflicting stories. Any advice would be great.

Thanks
Helen

dont know what to do

Welcome to Hyster Sisters, Helen.

I'm so sorry that you are having so many problems at such a young age. You didn't say whether you have gotten more than one opinion on having your surgery. If not, I think it would be a good idea, just to be sure that there is nothing else that can be done for you. A hysterectomy is major surgery, and shouldn't be done unless there is no other procedure that will help.

In the meantime, please read our pre-op and post-op hints and then come back to post any other questions that you may have.

Pre-Op Hysterectomy Page

Post-Op Hysterectomy Page

Please also go back into your profile and add your surgery date so you'll be on our calendar for that day, and will receive a special greeting.

I'm glad you found us - I hope we can help.

Hi Helen,

Welcome to Hyster Sisters!

You're young to be having this surgery, but that may work in your favor. Depending on how your general health is, you should have an easier recovery than say someone of my advanced years (40! )

It's natural to be scared of this surgery, just don't let that fear control you. Read and learn as much as you can. Knowledge is power and the more you know, the better prepared you will be, and the less fear you will have.

And feel free to post any questions or concerns you may have. We're here for you whenever you need us.

Best wishes and s,

Lisa

PS: I'll be celebrating my one year "hysterversary" the day you go for your surgery. It's amazing the difference a year makes!! I truly feel blessed with a new life and good health!
