Vertigo
Three weeks post-op from a total abdominal hysterectomy. I have been having severe vertigo for the last three nights and the doctor has put me on anti-nausea medicine. It is very depressing because I was doing so well and this makes me not want to move my head. I wonder if it has something to do with the position of my head during the surgery. I have an appointment withe an ENT for Monday. I have read on the web that there really is no cure. It can come and go. This has been more debilitating than my surgery. Does anyone have any help?????Thanks.

Trouble with vertigo!
I'm sorry you are experiencing this. We are going through enough with just the surgery and to have this complication must be miserable!!! I hope your vertigo goes away soon. Do you think you might have some sort of ear infection? If so, maybe a decongestant will get rid of any fluid you might have in your ear.
Good Luck!!

Trouble with vertigo!
Sophiegrace,
I'm so sorry for your vertigo.
The only advise I have is that my DH had vertigo last week. His neuro said it's a sign of a migraine headache. My DH has had a migraine since the day he took me home from the castle, 8 weeks tomorrow. I gave my DH Dramine and it helped him a bit.
Very Possible it could be a migraine, from the stress of the surgery.
Again, I'm so sorry. Please keep us posted. It could be sinus releated, but my money is on a migraine.

Trouble with vertigo!
I'm sorry you are going through this. I remember when I was at the two week mark I was experiencing "vertigo" symptoms. When I posted at that time, quite a few "sisters" reported having inner ear problems at the two to three week mark.
Mine eventually went away. I hope yours does the same.
Good luck.

Trouble with vertigo!
Do you still have your ovaries? I haven't had vertigo with my hysterectomy but I did have it when I went back on birth control pills after my second daughter was born. I couldn't use them anymore. Maybe it's a hormone problem?? Hope you're feeling better soon.

Trouble with vertigo!
I had vertigo 6 months ago (before my surgery) and the only answer we could come up with was perhaps a virus? Since surgery I have had just a little virtigo but also some dizziness caused by the percoset and vicodin.

i had this problem to. i have been on nasal spray for allergies and it has totally helped. My doc said it could be allergies that are causing problems with my inner ear. Maybe you should try this.

Trouble with vertigo!
I had this very same problem at 3 weeks I did the patch but it was turning into a catch 22 situation I wore the patch I felt better. I took the patch off it came back.. I kept calling the dr and he would say were the patch. Finally I gave up the patch and did a body cleansing treatment and went through the vomiting and dizziness and it finally went away. I also had a tah now things are just fine.

Trouble with vertigo!
I had vertigo at 8 weeks and it can last for a long time. I put up with it for 3 weeks. My GP held my head and had me move positions from my back to the right then left side while lying down on the table and I had to keep my eyes open the whole time. Each position I was supposed to wait until the vertigo stopped keeping my eyes open the whole time. It sounds hookie but it worked. He said lets try it because the ears, nose and throat doctor would do the same and I'd have to wait for an appt. My goodness it was 80% by the next morning and completely cured in 2 days. If your doctor doesn't know this technique you will have to go to a ears, nose and throat specialist. I will tell you my GP says it can take months to get rid of. Mine was awful. Hope you find someone who can do this for you.

I've had it
Back in January, out of absolutely NOWHERE I had a major dizzy spell that landed me on the floor. For three days I thought I was dying. Had anxiety and the whole bit. I got in to a world class ear clinic here in Memphis, The Shea Ear Clinic, and after hours of diagnostic tests was told I had benign positional vertigo.
Basically, it occurs when tiny, almost microscopic pieces of 'debris' or calcium like structures start floating around in your inner ear fluid. They bump into the tiny hairs in the fluid that allow your brain to know which way is up, or which way is down. Well, the bumping causes you to feel as if you are spinning(well, the room is). It goes away on its own, but I was given some exercises to help get it to away faster. I was also given Valium to take for three weeks(2 times a day!) Needless to say I think, I took one Valium and said I can't live like I'm all drugged outfor three weeks. So, instead I just took a Xanax whenever I felt an episode. It calmed me down and they always went away after a couple of minutes( they were hell though). The exercise is to sit on the edge of your bed, legs hanging over the edge. Now, plop yourself down to your right, pretty quicly so that you are lying sideways in bed. Saty until dizziness dissappears. Do it several times on each side every day.
I'm so sorry you are having to deal w/ this. Just a few days ago I was thinking about how bad I was having it after the hysterectomy, and reminded myself I could also have the vertigo(which made me feel better), but I DO FEEL FOR YOU!!! I will pray that it clears up real quickly for you so you can continue healing. God Bless!
