Embarrassed - Broke down at work

Wow, this really is a process isn't it? I went back to work for 1.5 days last week (at just over 2 weeks post op) and it went well. Had 3 days off, which were trying at best. A trip to the bank, drug store and grocery store wore me out for a whole day! Monday I went back to my full time schedule at work (6:45am-5pm) 3 days a week. Or so I thought. I was so tired yesterday that I never really got going. I plugged away and got all my critical work done by 3 and asked to go home. As I was talking to the office manager, I just started crying out of nowhere. How embarassing. She suggested I work part time (12-5) the rest of the week, which to me sounded like heaven! So that is today and Thursday. I slept for 10 hours last night and feel much better today. I will see how I feel after 5 hours of work (I'm sure better than after 8 or 9). I'm guessing my hormones are redistributing or something (I have my ovaries) but holy cow! I felt like a complete idiot. She was probably wanting to tell me to just take the whole week off! I really hope all this stabilizes and soon. I said to my husband I'd either rather go back to week 1 (which was hell, but as least I didn't have to do anything) or fast forward to week 6 and beyond. 21 days today.

They also let me out of the 2 day conference this coming weekend, they now realize, unlike my Dr that no way can I do that. Sorry for the long post, I just needed to get that out...glad I work with mostly women, hopefully they understand. They all seemed to get it.

Re: Embarrassed - Broke down at work

You had your surgery one day after mine, and I can not see myself working full days right now! I starting driving this morning under my husband's eagle eye, and I am hoping I can have a somewhat normal day with my kids and mother in law. I doubt I could have a productive day at work. I think if I put the mental energy out that work required, I would be in tears too. We only have so much to give, and the focus required to actually get something done beyond getting up and getting dressed, it's beyond me right now...I don't know what your job is but mine is sales, requires being "on" and I haven't been a ready to make any calls yet. I can do the background work and prep but my first event is Saturday, not sure how I am going to do. I have a feeling I will be in tears that afternoon too!
Take a little more time if she is offering it to you. Support is wonderful to have! We have to pace ourselves a little bit at a time

Re: Embarrassed - Broke down at work

Two weeks is pretty early, I don't know why Drs think ladies are automatically ready to work then. Mine said they OKd some women, but only if they were doing really well and insisted. Mainly they encouraged waiting 4 to 6 wks, which at the time seemed so long to wait. I'm glad you get to cut back a little to start back. I don't think we realize how taxing work is. Rest up on your non-work hrs, and I hope you heal up quickly. :

Re: Embarrassed - Broke down at work

My doctor said that I can take as much time as I want. I can't imagine working yet. I normally work at least 10 hours a day. I'm cleared to be out of the office until the beginning of June. I've been trying to focus on my volunteer work-so maybe 3 hours a days and I burst into tears at least once a day. Thank goodness it's usually at night. Take it slow.
