Don't mean to be gross
I'm sorry to be so blunt, but have any of you experienced problems with loose bowels after surgery? I was constipated for two days and could hardly go, but now I am having problems for two days with cramping and loose bowels. I know I had a virus a couple of days before surgery and it seemed like it came back on me after surgery with throat, sinus drainage, nausea, headache, etc. I called the doctor and the midwife said that the loose bowels should not be a side-effect of the hysterectomy. I am on nothing new other than the Premarin at 0.625 mg which is really low. I just wish it would go away.

Don't mean to be gross
My bowels were a little thrown off after surgery--at first it was hard to go and then when I did, I do remember a few days of diarrhea. I didn't take any medication for it though because I thought that would further mess up my bowels! I just figured I'd let nature take it's course and let my body do it's thing to get re-adjusted!!! and in a few days, it did!! Hope you feel better soon!! zanylynn

That's what I'm doing too
I don't want to take anything to further mess things up either. I figure it needs to clean itself out or whatever and will eventually calm down. Hopefully it will be sooner than later.

Don't mean to be gross
I had an attack of horrendous diarhhea about 3 weeks before my surgery (a virus or something) and have had loose bms and some diarhhea after my surgery. it is now 4 weeks post op and the bm is loose and sometimes 2x a day but the doctor is not concerned. he said not too use the stool softeners or metamucile. I think I'm getting better but when I get 'that feeling' I do rush to the bathroom. I also had a rectocele repaired so I figure that the loose bm is better than the alternative.
good luck

Don't mean to be gross
I have had diahrrea on and off since my surgery. My doctor said it was ok and completely normal. Today I ended up back in the hospital for possible early or atypical appendicitis. I go to the surgeon tuesday unless my symptoms get worse.
But if you are not having any pain the loose stools should be fine.
