You know it's not normal, each woman here has her on reasons. I have fibroids with a 17 week uterus. I'm a little older I'm 46 my surgery is scheduled Nov 14th. I feel if I can deal with all this pain and pressure I'm having now, I can do ok with the surgery.

there is no correct answer anyone can give you...the sisters can just let you know how they have done or how they are feeling..each individual is different...please go with the choice that makes you the most comfortable.Hyst. are common but there are people who do have problems and recovery is'nt always easy...best advice i can give you is to get as much info. as you can and make an informed decision.I myself have weighed my options and the surgery is the best alternative for me.If you are hesitant/uncertain then reschedule your surgery date for a couple of weeks out that will allow you ample time to fully decide..my surgery date was 9-19..now it is 10-10.
what ever decision you may make i wish you the very best and hope that you have a speedy recovery process.

Hi Kattail,

I agree with doing your research as Bernice said. And also what Coffeebrown said. Each Hyster Sister has her reasons for a hyst.

I might suggest getting a 2nd or 3rd opinion. I got two opinions myself. It would just help you gather more info. As you said, your Dr. knows your body so well. Another Dr. may not know your body as well and he/she could take a more objective view .

In my opinion, since you are in your mid-30 and possibly 15 years out from menopause and estrogen levels lowering enough to shrink your fibroid, I would investigate possibly alternative methods to slow the fibroid's growth. Possibly you are a candidate for a UFE (Uterine Fibroid Embolization)??

Also, you are a candidate for a less invasive hyst at this time since you are scheduled for a TVH.

I know in my case I had a ~window of opportunity~ for a less invasive hyst. My two Drs felt if I had waited very long my fibroids would have continued to grow and I would have only been a candidate for a TAH.

I might suggest you ask your Dr. what kind of fibroid growth he projects if he is opting for observation only. In some cases, observation is best and at the same time, you are starting to notice more symptoms. I know for me my symptoms came on suddenly. Heavier periods, bladder incontinence, pelvic pressure, etc. As Coffeebrown said, it depends on what level of uncomfortableness is okay with you.

As we ladies know, in most cases a hyst is an elective surgery. And for me it came down to my ~quality of life~ with fibroids which was basically getting to be miserable. Just weigh what is right for you and you will make the correct decision for yourself.
