Surgery on Feb. 4th......terrified!

3 days to the big day. I can't even begin to express how scared I am. I don't even know why! I'm extremely emotional. Going through what ifs in my mind. I know none of this makes any sense and I should stop, but there are some times I can't help it!
Am I the only nut out there that has felt this way pre-op?

Re: Surgery on Feb. 4th......terrified!

I'm also on the 4th, and I'm feeling very overwhelmed today. Errands have to be run, and it's icy outside. I only have today and tomorrow to get everything done, since Wednesday afternoon is bowel prep time.

I lay in bed at night thinking about the what-ifs, and it drives me crazy! What calms me down is knowing that I'm taken care of...pray if you do that sort of thing.

Big ((HUGS)).

Re: Surgery on Feb. 4th......terrified!

These are VERY normal feelings. I know I was terrified, and I usually am not the type to get scared of things. I even was having second thoughts and debating calling to cancel. Just remember why you are having this surgery and remind yourself that afterward you won't have that/those problem(s) anymore. Believe me, the waiting is the absolute WORST part of this whole thing.

Re: Surgery on Feb. 4th......terrified!

I so agree the waiting was the worse. I made sure my Dr knew I was anxious. I knew I had picked a excellant surgeon that was respected by his staff so now came the waiting. I was so fortunate to have only had to wait 2 weeks.

I absolutely wasnt reconsidering. My cycles were interrupting my life but I in a couple days before with alot of prayer my God just granted me this peace with a few moment of anxiousness peeping thru but still it was almost like a surrender.

I needed to get better and the surgery was my last option. Hang in there, say your prayers ask your Dr to give you something to kindof relax you.

The waiting is tough. I lost an ovary due to a fluid collection in my tied tubes but all in all every day since the surgery has been a little bit better. Hugs to you and I will pray for you to have a peace.

Re: Surgery on Feb. 4th......terrified!

Waiting is the worst. I had mine last Thursday the 28th. Once I was awake and co-herent I did think to myself how sisters were right, the waiting beforehand is the worst. Not to minimize it now, because yes I do have moments if pain, but I have pain meds for that! Good Luck!

Re: Surgery on Feb. 4th......terrified!

I too was had terrible anxiety before mine. And it is true - I know you hear this a lot - the waiting really is the hardest. I just figured I wasn't stopping it and they day was coming no matter what I did so I just tried to be a good patient and stay calm. Praying really helped me. I got really calm after that. There is a prayer forum on this site and it helped me to ask for prayers as well. Your mind is at so much ease after. You are sore, but you other things to worry about - like getting better - and no more anxiety. It will be over before you know it and you'll be at home resting getting well.

Thank you trayne91 - perfect words to calm my brain! I didn't know there was a prayer site on here. Thank you! I am glad to know that.

Re: Surgery on Feb. 4th......terrified!

Hi
I totally understand how you feel. My op is on the 5th feb. I am trying to get organised, but feel out of control. Having odd dreams , nothing about the surgery, just bizarre.
All will better soon and we will be advising others, I`m sure.
