Compression panty and hysterectomy recovery questions - no info given :/

Hello , o I am 12 days post op . my belly is swolen off course. especialy by the end of the day . I understand I can use belly band or panties with compression ? Not my doctor or the nurses explain to me what to do ...nothing . so I really not sure what I can or cant do after the RH . is it ok to start to wear compression panty 12 days after ? Is it weird that no one discussed with me how to behave after my surgery ? except telling me i can go back to work and drive after 2 weeks ..he didnt tell me anything

I was given a belly band (binder) in the hospital that my dr had ordered for me after she saw me holding my stomach and trying to walk and maneuver my iv. I had a TAH. The nurse that gave it to me told me that my dr is the only one that she sees still use belly bands. I however, was grateful for it! I do not have a large belly but the swelling and the need to support it to help that pain was defiantely something I needed. It was a huge relief to help me move around. I still use it off and on to help me. I'm still dealing with gas pains and I'm very sore internally so I don't wear it all the time. I'm sure you will find a degree of comfort if you decide to use one. Take care.

Re: Compression panty and recovery questions - no info given :/

Hello
The post op panty was a life saver for me. I had a total abdominal hysterectomy and I felt it supported and kept things in place. It also made my range of motion and comfort so much greater. Today makes three weeks post op and I still wear the post op panty for support. You should call your doctor with any questions but listening to your body is key. One great bit of advice I read here on Hystersisters was "nose over toes" when going from sitting to standing. Hope this helps.

Re: Compression panty and recovery questions - no info given :/

I was given mesh panties rather than compression. They were very soft and non-binding, which I liked. For me, the thought of wearing compression anything was something I wanted to stay away from! Some women love them, some women didn't want them, others have them and decided they didn't like them. One thing, though - it won't get rid of the Swelly Belly. It just might help you feel more supported. Swelly belly goes away when it feels like it !

As for "how to behave", the medical staff should've given you some guidelines, yes. There are lots of wonderful resources here to make up for that though! Check out
