Silver Nitrate is nothing...

compared to Cleomycin vaginal ovules. I went in for my 6 week check yesterday, and for the most part everything was fine.
He's looking "down there" and tells me that the stiches haven't worked their way out yet. Bummed, but not surprised, I asked how much longer. He says, "Oh, about 30 seconds." Cool! Speed things up! He then applies the silver nitrate-no worse than a pap smear, but the look on the nurse's face was like, "Doesn't that hurt?" Tells me that they can do a quick bacteria check to see if I need antibiotics & when I was done dressing to step out to his desk.
Before he leaves the room he askes the usual questions, hrt, pain, swelling, etc. I asked him about swimming pool, hot tub use & he says to me, "You've got something planned, alone this weekend?" I replied, "Yes, the children will be staying with my sister while we have had this weekend planned for months & I was hoping to, um, celebrate not being celebate anymore." He says, "We'll just help that healing along a little faster & when there is no more drainage-you may proceed slowly." He gave me a prescription for Cleomycin ovules to be used 1 in the vagina at bedtime for 3 days.
Bonus! Or so I think.
I flowed most of the day yesterday this blackish yuck, but know it needs to get out of my body. Then right before bed, I put the lovely ovule in. OMG! Talk about 1000 fire ants biting at once. As that thing melted, it burned & itched all at once! The pharmacitst's info said nothing about this. I'm a school nurse & I've never dealt with this medicine & of course my drug books are at school & can't sit up to check it out on the computer, or it would all drain out & I need it to stay put!
Moral of this story-tonight I will be prepared & help the rest of my sisters who have this prescribed to know what to expect. Insert, go to bed, and be prepared for the burny/itchies for a good 5-10 min. yuck. lol.
I sure hope its worth it-the kids can't wait to go to their aunt's, and DH-here I come!

Silver Nitrate is nothing...

Julie,

I never had difficulty with the silver nitrate either. I just told everybody that I was passing "schrapnel" when it would come out of me, lol.

Happy healing!

Silver Nitrate is nothing...

Hi Gardenurse,
OUCH! That sounds like when I had an allergic reaction to the suppository I used for a yeast infection. As if it wasn't hurting enough already...

Silver Nitrate is nothing...

Thanks for the support ladies! Incidently, I have to apologize, I spelled the medicine wrong. It's Cleocin or Clindomycin (I tried to combine the 2 names) The 2nd night was better-I got into bed right away & the burny/itchy was less. Last night at church I asked my friend the pharmacist & she told me that I must've had some "raw spots" that the medicine was interacting with. OK that made sense, especially since my last does (last night) was very uneventful. I felt nothing & had no drainage this morning except for the medicine. I'm so hoping to um, resume relations this evening. Doc said if there is no drainage-have fun, but go slow. Now I'm getting nervous. lol.
So ladies, if your Dr wants to be nice & "help things along" beware the Cleocin ovules that 1st night!

(((Julie)))
Thanks for sharing your experience. I had never heard of this medicine. I'm really glad it seems to have worked for you. When you first started telling your story I was a little worried for you.
I hope your evening is everything you hoped for. Take your time and go slow and easy at first. Do you have some extra lubricant on hand? It's a good idea just in case. You might be a little tender especially considering you just did these treatments.

Silver Nitrate is nothing...

Thanks, Rita. And I did buy a brand new bottle-just for the occasion. I'm also going to take it very easy the next few days. I think DH is more nervous than I am. He always was after the postpartum wait, afraid he'd hurt me. Bless his heart. This is a great site & am so thankful for it. We are all so unique in our experiences. I thought I would share something different, so someone else wouldn't be totally freaked out by it if it happened to them. I guess they prescribe Cleocin for bacterial vaginosis, but there usually aren't any "raw spots" in there for those ladies, but I could be wrong on that one.
