Post Op Leg Cramps

Hey sisters!

I had a BAH TSO on August 2nd, and I have gone through the typical post surgery pains and discomforts, but in the past week or so I have had SEVERE muscles cramps in the calf of only my right leg every single night! I think I could sleep if not for these recurring spasms. Is anyone else going through this? Do any of you have a solution?? I would appreciate some help! HUGS to all of you!

I have gotten them real bad too since the operation... of course after I bragged about how they seemed to have gone away! I think the common suggestion is a supplement of calcium, magnesium, zinc, and vitamin D. Also, to make sure you are drinking plenty of water as being dehydrated can cause cramping. Cut out carbonated softdrinks. Eat a banana or some oranges for potassium. If it persists do call your doctor. I am going to try to remember to ask about this at my followup in October. Good Luck!

I had severe cramping in both legs and both feet for the first week after surgery. I have attributed it to dehydration, combined with taking one too many Colace pills per day. (Had been advised to take two per day, post-op, for 15 days, but when this proved too many, dropped to one and lost both headaches and cramps. Folky's advice is great, and it matches advice I was given by my sister. Lots of liquids are esp the trick for me.
