Omentum??

I met my GYN oncologist for the first time 3 days ago. He explained the surgery that I will have in 3 weeks. I have been diagnosed with endometrial cancer so he said he would take my uterus,cervex, ovaries, and a part or all of my omentum. What is that all about? Does anyone have any experience with this that might give me a clue??

I had a TAH BSO and omenectomy on 5/14/07. My Dr explained to me that the omentum is the fatty tissue that covers our intestinal area and likened it to the appendix, something we could live without. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and apparently some tumors had spread to that so they took it out completely. Hope this helps and good luck with your surgery.

Libstudent described the omentum pretty well. They tend to remove it as it is one place that cancer spreads to and by removing it, they remove that chance of spread.
