Hello-I'm confused about this decision.
Hello,
I am new to this site, my sister sent me the link so that I may find answers to some questions. I recently had a laproscope and the doctor determined that I have Adenomyosis. He has suggested doing a partial hysterectomy but said the decision was left up to me as to wether or not to have this done. I have to go see him next week (4/9) so I was wondering if there are any others out here that have gone through this. I had never heard of the term he used before. I have read some information on Adenomyosis but if anyone has dealt with this, advice would be greatly appreciated. My sister thinks I may be better off to have the total instead of a partial. Thanks for any advice.

Hello-I'm confused about this decision.
Hi There!
Welcome to Hystersisters!
I had Adenomyosis, but did not even know it until after my surgery when I read my surgery and pathology report (my hyst was due to ovarian tumor and fibroids). Some adeno is asymptomatic.
You didn't mention any symptoms. I think you are very smart to research this; I've read that hysterectomy will rid the body of adeno. It might be a good idea to discuss this further with your DR and explore your best options, asking why partial is favored for you over total. If partial will rid you of your problems, then I would think it's certainly worth considering, as you might prefer to keep any healthy organs.
Best wishes to you; I know you will make the decision that is best for you.

Hello-I'm confused about this decision.
Hi Pinky!
I would definitely ask your doctor exactly what he means when he says 'partial'. I have only heard it used when the uterus is removed but the cervix (part of the uterus) is left. Whether or not to keep the cervix is determined by you, your doctor, history and the type of surgery (abdominal vs vaginal). Not sure if this is what your doctor means, so please ask. I had adenomyosis but had a vaginal hyst so keeping the cervix was not an option. Hope this helps and good luck to you!
