new and need to talk

I have never been on a message board before, but after reading a lot of your messages I feel comfortable enough to talk. I am scheduled for 5/17 just two days before my 38th b-day. I have two DD but was always hoping for that boy and now that is not going to happen. I am really feeling extremely depressed about the whole situation and am nervous about the surgery and stay away from the family. I do not like the fact that I may need to depend on anyone to do things for me, I hate the thought of giving up any control. Any advice?????????

Don't do anything permanent without being totally comfortable with the decision. Don't let someone else make this once-in-a-lifetime decision for you, either. You know yourself best, will you forever beat yourself up about having a hyst if you do it? A hyst is never necessary unless you have cancer. That's a whole different subject.

Educate yourself about hysts and the different types. Since you are young, are you keeping your ovaries? That's a decision to think about, because it's not reversible. Once they are gone, they are gone forever. You have to be certain about this before you go ahead. And get a second opinion and a third, if you don't like what your doctor is telling you. And if anyone in the office gets huffy with you, let em have it. It's your body.

Don't be afraid to cancel your surgery while you decide. Even the day before. You only have this to do once, and you want to get it right. And be comfortable in your skin with your decision, that's the main thing.

Only you can make this decision.

new and need to talk

I think what you are feeling is normal. We have all been there. I did not want any more children, but at first I wondered if this would make me less of a woman. I do not feel that way now, but when you are facing this, I think you need to go full circle with your feelings. It is a process. I had 26 days notice for my surgery and wow I came here every day. The first time I came, I read a couple of posts and then logged out. I was feeling like all I cared about was my situation. But the next day I came back and the more I read the more I started to absorb and accept what I was facing. That's what makes hystersisters so special. Your sisters care because we understand. Hugs to you!

Hi and a warm welcome to HS a great woman to woman site where you can feel comfortable asking any question and can find a wealth of information on hysterectomies and related topics. Women who have gone before you willingly share their experiences and will be there for you too if you only want/need to vent and you can follow your contemporaries as they prepare for their surgeries, etc. As a new LIW, if you have not gone there yet you may want to look at the pre-op and post op articles, and below is a link to them:
https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/hsl...s=&forumid=170
https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/hsl...s=&forumid=171
You might also want to check out the "new here?" and "resources" which you can find by going to the top of this page and looking just below the HS logo.
If you are uncertain re your surgery, please get that second or even third opinion; this is major surgery and cannot be undone. If you know you want to have the surgery but feel uncomfortable with having other do things for you, think of this as a time others can give back a little of that nurturing and pampering you have unselfishly given them. You deserve that to get your health back and heal properly so you once again can take good care of those loved ones.
Since you already have a surgery date, when you get a chance would you please return to your profile page and enter that date since it will allow us to send you greetings near your op date and also can be useful when responding to any questions.
s and blessings, peggiesue
