Re: Any Suggestions?

You NEED to get an abdominal binder. It will help GREATLY with the first walk you need to take around the hospital. I ordered mine from the hyster sisters store. I am 10 days post op and I still use it!

Re: Any Suggestions?

I also think the abdominal binder is a must! I was soooo glad I had it. I used it almost constantly for 2 weeks then off and on for the next 2. My recovery would have been a very different one, a much more difficult one if I didn't have it. I had a LSH - (laparoscopic surgery) and wasn't sure if I'd need the binder - but it was a great help and comfort. Here's a great thread about needing, having and using the binder:

I actually packed most of the things you mentioned but I ended up just resting and laying around in bed. I didn't even open my bag !

Great success with your surgery and recovery

Re: Any Suggestions?

Abdominal binder, slip-on slippers, earplugs (or you will never get any sleep). I took my laptop.

Re: Any Suggestions?

Thanks for the list. I have been stressing about it - but your list seems pretty complete.

I go in Friday

Good luck and speedy recovery to you.

Perfect timing on this post - my surgery is a week from today. Gotta get myself together.

Re: Any Suggestions?

My suggestions are:

slippers that you can slip on easily, preferably ones that cover your heels so they stay on whilst you're shuffling along;

magazines rather than books - you really won't have the energy to concentrate on a book, and magazines at least have pictures for you to look at if you can't concentrate on the articles;

peppermints for dry mouth and to help calm any nausea;

if you're going to have a catheter, take a nightgown rather than pyjamas;

I would recommend wearing the hospital gown rather than your own if you have a drain in your incision - mine kept leaking!

if you're going to wear hospital gowns, take a dressing gown/robe to slip on when you go for a walk;

and the absolute definite must-have - a small pillow to hold against your tummy when you cough or sneeze, to put against the seat-belt in the car on the way home and just for general comfort and security ! The micro-bead ones are perfect for this as they mould themselves round your abdomen - I used mine constantly right up into my 5th week post op!

I hope this is of some help

Re: Any Suggestions?

A small fan for the hot flashes/night sweats. I didn't bring one, but the nurses found one for me. What a lifesaver.

Re: Any Suggestions?

I brought my make up,,,,,I always feel 100% better when I have that on...seems silly, but I feel like i'm in more control of whats going on and nothing can take me down with out it. best of wishes to you, and may you have as uneventful recovery as I have so far!
