First day at home with lots of GAS

Came home today. Surgery went far better than what I expected. I am in pain bc of incision and LOTS of gas. Under the circumstances I am pretty pleased. My incision looks great, cannot even see the stitches. What helps with gas pains?

Re: First day at home with lots of GAS

Walking, walking, and more walking! The first few days I walked at the top of the hr for 5 mins- very annoying when your so tired but laying there with gas pain was more annoying.

I've also seen some recommend Gas-X and warn ginger ale with a tea bag in it (I tried the later it helped)

Re: First day at home with lots of GAS

I agree, walking gets the gas moving outward. Gas X helps a little, but didn't help me much. I'm still struggling with gas even now, but not nearly as much. Also I find that drinking ice cold water helps my gas move out as well, kinda gets the intestines going. Hope you feel better soon sweetie.

Re: First day at home with lots of GAS

I was discharged yesterday afternoon. I am having the same problem with gas pains. I had an abdominal procedure 4 days ago, leaving the cervix, but took the right ovary and tube(The left ovary was taken out 3 years ago). How long does it usually take for a bowel movement? I think that may be contributing to a lot of my pain as I am putting in, but not putting out. I really am glad I stumbled across this group/site in my pre op stage. This is my first time ever posting anything. I thank all of you who have. iT has helped me enormously

I agree, walking helps. Chewing gum also helped me get my intestines working.

Thanks for the tip. Is it any particular gum that works better?
