Upcoming hysterectomy: Question about tmj problem

Hi, my hysterectomy is in 3 weeks and I've been having earaches and headaches and have a very clicky jaw so my dentist has referred me to an oral specialist. I have a two hour drive to get to this appt and I am uncomfortable with pain from large fibroids and uterus and already have to make the trip on a different day next week for the pre op at hospital so I was thinking of deferring this appt till after the surgery. My question is whether the tmj problem and bruxism might be a problem during the surgery?

I can't think why it would be. Make sure your anesthesiologist knows about it in case it affects your airway during surgery.

The oral specialist will not be able to fix either problem prior to your surgery so I would delay the appointment. It would be a good idea to have a night guard for the bruxism and I would inform the anesthesiologist about both issues prior to your surgery. I did not see/meet my anesthesiologist until the day of my surgery but we did take time to discuss my tmj and the temporary bridge in the front of my mouth so she could take extra care when inserting the breathing tubes.
