Scar healing

Dr says no sunlight to scar to promote healing. Does anyone have any idea how long you have to protect the scar and is anyone using anything special to put on thier scar?

I hate the way my scar looks. I'm putting vitamin E oil on it right now. When I visit my doctor next week I'm going to ask about Mederma or some other scar treatment.

I recall when I had my c-section, they said I think about a YEAR, use sunscreen or keep it covered, or it could become permanenty discolored (yuck)
Eventually it will fade to near invisible, but do NOT get it sunburned.

Well I have a scar from hip to hip because I also had an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) at the same time. My plastic surgeon said to use Aquaphor which you can get at a pharmacy.

I've been saved once again!! My doctor said nothing about sun to the scar. I've been laying in the tanning bed in an effort to do SOMETHING to make me feel better about the way this swelly belly looks. Geeeezzzzzzz!! Now I can't even do that
BUT I am glad I found out this soon, I've only been in twice. Was going to go again today, but I guess I'll just get a pedicure.

Glad I mentioned it! My doc says you can go in the sun, but you have to use a certain sunscreen on the scar. And don't wear a dark colored bathing suit. Only a light colored one. But, better to avoid the sun if you can. Great for me going to Florida in two weeks!

Yes- My c-section scar did in fact fade to near invisible, very very hard to notice unless you were one of the lucky few ; ) getting THAT close!
Hyst incision is right thru that scar, so i expect more of the same.
