One week post op...still on pain meds?

I had a complete hysterectomy 7 days ago, took everything and my abdomen was cut open. I am still taking two opioids a day...one first thing in the morning and one before I go to bed. Motrin will not cut the pain, and while it's not excruciating, it's extremely uncomfortable. I have a big interview in two days, and I'm concerned about the pain. Can anyone else shed light on what to expect as far as pain and narcotics go? How long did you take them? I realize it depends on the hysterectomy, so please please respond if they took everything and had to cut you open or if you know of someone who did. I'm SO ready for my system to get back to normal, stop taking milk of magnesia and start feeling human and not drugged again. Are my expectations too high one week post op?

Re: One week post op...still on pain meds?

I will be 4 weeks post op on Thurs & also had abdominal incision. I kept 1 ovary & both tubes. I have been able to go 3 days without pain meds but still take Aleve or ibuprofen . I usually take 1 pill @ night unless I do a lot during day & then take more. I am on tramadol right now . I am having vaginal & groin aching & pains but I can tell that I am feeling better!

Re: One week post op...still on pain meds?

I used the oxy for a week and am still needing the ib 600. I have that tapered to 1 or 2 a day. Pain sets back recovery so i use the medications as needed. Keep in mind i was davinci.

Re: One week post op...still on pain meds?

I took the narcotic pain meds for two full weeks and I had a TVH...around the clock for the first week and then only two per day the second week. I say take them if you are uncomfortable...your body needs to heal and you fighting your pain is not helping. I also took Advil to cut the pain in between and I kept taking those for almost 5 weeks.

Re: One week post op...still on pain meds?

My surgery was 11 days ago. I am still on oxycodone, but down to 1 pill at a time and can go about 6-7 hrs between taking them. I haven't taken the IB 600 since the hospital, I had neck and spine surgery last year and it can interfere with bone growth. I have been on vicodin since my spine surgery for long term pain management, which I stopped after surgery and started oxy so I might need a little more pain meds because I am treating 2 pain problems with one pill. I plan on stopping oxy and going back on vicodin in the next couple of days, since I have noticed the pain is getting better and I am not needing the oxy so much.

Re: One week post op...still on pain meds?

I am 2 weeks post op going on to 3 weeks. the first week I was on pain meds around the clock. my pain was just like yours. it's bearable but extremely uncomfortable. as the second week came around I was taking it only when I needed it, which was maybe once or twice a day. towards the middle of my 2nd week I stopped all pain meds taking ibuprofen whenever i feel pain. I thought I was going to be on them forever too. your body needs time to heal. I've learned that some heal faster than others and i'm one of the slower ones. hopefully when you reach your second week it will be better for you. I had the davinci surgery and they took everything including samples of my lymph nodes.
