Question about Silver Nitrate

Ok, this post is, unfortunately, going to contain tmi. Sorry in advance. Now that I got that outta the way.....
Yesterday I went for my 6 wk. checkup..had granulation. The doctor used silver nitrate on the spot/spots. He used the silver nitrate 5 times(I hope y'all know what I mean. He used 5 different things with silver nitrate on them I believe) Anyway, on to the tmi part. Have y'all that have had to get silver nitrate used experienced vaginal pain? I mean externally. I had cramping inside yesterday which I attributed to the treatment. But man oh man, I didn't think I'd have external pain. It is basically painful to wipe after using the bathroom. Is this normal or is there an issue going on with the silver nitrate?

Re: Question about Silver Nitrate

Hi! I had the silver nitrate done as well after my hyster a year ago. My Doc also used many different applicators, even poked around with one after to make sure I didn't experience any pain. I didn't have any discomfort after at all but there are other sisters here that said they did experience some cramping etc afterwards. As for the pain after wiping perhaps its from the speculum? Have you looked to see if you are a bit swollen? Its a tender area and if your doctor had the speculum in for some time to do the applications, maybe that's a possibility?
Be prepared for some greyish discharge about three or four days afterwards too.

If it becomes really bothersome I would call and ask, just to be sure there isn't some sort of a reaction to the nitrate itself.

Take Care!

Re: Question about Silver Nitrate

I had a silver nitrate treatment last week at my 6 week check up. I had two spots that had granulation. I felt a stinging sensation during the treatment and some cramping that evening, but that's normal. After all, there was alot of poking going on that day but no external pain. If it doesn't go away I would call your Dr.

Hope you begin to feel better soon!
