Need some advice about class and hysterectomy....

I've been suffering with adenomyosis for years and my pain has gotten so much worse I spend just about every day feeling like I'm in labor several times an hr. I've had my left tube and ovary removed, 4 dnc's, ablation and my right tube tied. My dr wants to do a total hysterectomy and soon. The only problem is I'm in school and this class ends may 9th. Everyone keeps telling me to take this class in the fall and just get the surgery done so the pain and suffering will be gone. I'm so scared I don't know what to do. I'm not sure I can't wait 3 months to have the surgery but I don't want to mess up my classes. Someone give me advice please!!!!!

Re: Need some advice....

Hi, Denise!

You know, only you can make this decision, sister.

Here is what I would tell you. I am a full time college student. I've had problems for years, but in October, things got really, really bad. I ended up in the ER twice. I had a blood transfusion due to heavy bleeding, I needed pain killers to make it through the day. I insisted, so my class schedule wasn't messed up, that my hysterectomy wait until 12/16, the day after my last final. I was not messing my entire semester up!

Well. That didn't work out too well for me. I missed several days because of not being well. Studying was a nightmare because I felt awful and couldn't concentrate. My performance totally suffered, and I barely managed Cs in two really important classes. My GPA took a major hit. I can't undo that.

And now? I feel better than I have in ages. This semester I have energy and no pain and the ability to concentrate and study.

I wish, wish, wish I had dropped last semester and had the hysterectomy the moment my doctor said "you need to do this, and you need to do it now." Stubbornness meant 2 more months of pain and a dropped GPA.

So. You can see what my suggestion would be.

Need some advice about class and hysterectomy....

I would like to start by saying I'm not a doctor. I have uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, prolapsed uterus, heavy & long painful periods and clotting and endometriosis.

In November I was given the date of February 26 for this year. I was extremely upset because I was in horrendous pain and could not wait so long.

In December I went to ER because I could no longer take the pain.

I was told fibroids needed to be shrunk in order to have the TLH and my dr recommend Lupron shot which suppressed my hormones and put me in medical menopause. The pain went away after one week. The shot lasts for 3 months. I could get another shot for a total of six months if I wanted to wait to have surgery.

I don't know if that's an option. If it isn't an option, I personally would not wait. I could not concentrate on anything while I was going through that pain. I don't know know how you would manage with pain until May.

Your health is important and one class in my humble opinion can wait. I hope this helps you. Good luck 🍀 😊
