Coughing.......post nasal drip, what???

Hi Everyone,
Had my surgery on Oct. 27. Many complications including going back to OR the next day for a bleed, pneumonia and allergic reaction to steri-strips with blisters but I'm home and feel well. I have this annoying cough and 'cloudy' voice (don't know how else to describe it!).
Anyone know if this is related to anesthesia?

I'm not sure about the voice thing or coughing, but could it be related to pneumonia?

I had the raspy voice but it was because of the tube down the throat and it only lasted a few days.

Thanks much. I've thought the cough and raspiness could be related to either. It just seems like it's hanging on.

Thank you ladies! I had my surgery on Monday, 11/2 and I can't stop coughing. Now, I feel better just knowing that it's not abnormal.

You poor thing. I think the raspiness is from the tube (if you had one) and the drugs. Take care of yourself...it is SOOO important for the healing process. Good luck

Sometimes the tube that they put down your throat can really irritate everything. Tea with honey can help. & Natural cough drops are good too. It will get better.

It is more than likely a combination of both the pneumonia and the tube down your throat. Did you have to do breathing treatments when you had pneumonia? That is suppose to break all the mucus up and it can also effect the nasal area as you are breathing it in. I know when my dad had pneumonia after his heart surgery he had some of the same problems. The raspy throat is probably from the breathing tube. If it does not get any better I would talk with your GP about it.

I wouldn't say "can't stop coughing" is normal afterwards. Could be the flu, could be pneumonia, could be from the tube (except I don't think the tube would cause irritation to that extent of that much coughing.) Who knows?
