2 days post hysterectomy - Gas

The only pain I'm having is the gas. It has settled in my upper shoulder areas I've been moving around quite a bit. Surgery was the 26th. I've tried simethacone and digestive enzymes please help.

The gas pains can be wicked! Some people are helped by weighted pressure, so maybe a heaver pillow or something on your shoulders. Heat can also be helpful to some, like a heating pad or warm rice sock. Other than that you are doing everything else you can by moving and taking Gas X.

the gas is absolutely miserable, I had it so bad with my gallbladder surgery so with hysterectomy I begged my Dr to try and do anything to make as much gas get out and he did awesome , no gas pains with this surgery, heat and moving around is about all I know of , I had mine last for almost a week , hope you get relief soon...your not alone in dealing with it ..

I agree with them. Walk as much as you can and heating pad helped me also.

I've heard symethicone does not work for the shoulder gas pain only for intestinal. I have heard a heating pad is good and moist heat is better because the trapped gas comes out of your skin. I really don't know because I only had the gas in my intestinal trac. I hope it gets better soon. The gas is the worse part I think.

The gas in the neck/shoulder was awful! Heating pad, water, and walking fixed it for me. I did not have it after the second day, so hopefully it will be going away for you soon too!!

Was your surgery laparoscopic? Your pain sounds similar to what I had; it's from the gas that's used to inflate the abdomen for those procedures, and I remember that pain was excruciating. I second the recommendations for regular walking, which is the best thing you can do to get it out; peppermint tea also works quite well. You should be done with it pretty soon! I use a heated rice bag. Then a shoulder rub. It has been helping. Day 4 since surgery and it is better today. Also I've had a can of coke to help release gas pressure. I don't drink soda normally.
