Does anyone else have the feeling of being "empty"?
In the middle of the night sometimes I wake myself up laughing and I have ended up on my stomach. It is then that I can feel the "space" in my stomach. It is wierding me out. I know this is probably normal but I have never had surgery before and I don 't like the way this feels. Any advice?

I can relate to your empty feeling, I just had my surgery in August and I have had that same empty feeling but its gone now so just be patient and this too will pass.

I have this same sort of feeling sometimes. It used to seem like I could feel my uterus, and I would have pain associated to cycts on my ovaries that is obviously gone now. Not going to complain about the lack of pain or abnormal, constant bleeding. But feeling that an integral part of me is missing hits me more than I expected. There are times I feel like an "it" instead of a girl.

Re: Does anyone else have the feeling of being "empty"?
Have the sisters ever heard of phantom limb? It's the sensation that an amputated part is still attached and functioning. Phantom sensations can happen anywhere, not just with large external body parts - because they arise from cut nerve endings trying to figure out what they are sensing. So having an empty sensation, phantom cramps (as opposed to real ones), phantom fullness, etc. is completely normal.
Now, sometimes this lasts a very long time. I haven't had the top two third of my left middle finger for more than 33 years - but I still sometimes feel my finger there, especially when I have had procedures done on my index finger (which was at one point fused to the middle finger.) I am thankful that it is just "presence" rather than pain.

Re: Does anyone else have the feeling of being "empty"?
Just today as my daughter and I were sitting by her University lake eating brunch I said to her it felt weird and I could feel an empty space down in that area. She laughed and said it would be impossible to feel the womb in the lower pelvis missing just like impossible to feel the appendix missing. I then realised it was that I could not feel the fullness in and at the top of the vagina area like I was so used to. It was very obv ious to me as I had a prolapsed vagina (half way descending into it, along with the bladder) and it feels so different now. Definitely lighter and different, but not at all bad. Anyhow once we get back to our busy lives that will be a distant memory. Good luck.
