How does the Dr. see if you have cyst's? I had a TVH 3mos. ago, every time I am supose to have a period on the right side I still double over in pain I am wondering could it be cyst's? I have no idea anymore. Just tired of the pain and want an end to it all. What tests can my Dr. do?

possible cyst's?

Hoogie -

Sorry you are having so much discomfort. I had a TAH on April 14 and my ovaries have been in overdrive since then. Yesterday I went back to the DR - All restrictions were lifted at my 3 week visit and told not to return for 1 year! I felt great until now. Over the weekend I was having a lot of pain on my left side - radiating from the back to front and my first thought was a kidney stone. I had a little blood in my urine on Tuesday, but less pain in my back. We decided that I had passed some small stones, but when the midwife palpated my left ovary I almost came off the table. I had an ultrasound and they saw a cyst on my left ovary. My DDR called last night at 7:00 and told me they thought it was an ovulation cyst and should resolve itself. I have another scan in 6-8 weeks unless the pain and pressure continues.

So to answer your question; they can do a simple ultrasound and see what they need to see. Good Luck!

possible cyst's?

Hi Stacey,

First, the doctor will do a physical exam. This can narrow down exactly where the pain is coming from. The only ways I've ever had it confirmed that I had ovarian cysts (I've never had just one cyst) was by sonogram, or during actual surgery (once by laproscopy and again during my TAH). I don't have a sonogram every time I have a cyst though. I've had them so often that I can usually tell.....however, pain I thought was from my ovarian cysts last fall turned out to be the first signs of one of my gigantic fibroids. So, if you have new pain, different pain, or increased pain then it's a good idea to see your doctor.

possible cyst's?

Hi Hoogie!

I sure hope you get this straightened out soon!

I had a cyst years ago...they found it through a vaginal ultrasound. Mine dissolved, so I didn't have to have surgery. But, oh my, was it ever so painful when it did dissolve...happened in the middle of the night. I felt like I was having a miscarriage or something! I just said a prayer and hoped that I would live through the night.

My heart goes out to you! Please let us know how you are doing. I hope you get an answer very soon.

possible cyst's?

Stacecy,

Treatment varies depending on the type of cyst and how big the cyst becomes. Your doctor should be able to get a good idea from the sonogram.

I get functional ovarian cysts, they form when I ovulate....mine vary in size from about 2 cm up to the size of a grapefruit. Basically what happens is that the tiny cyst that forms at ovulation doesn't go away immediately like it should, it fills with fluid and hangs around for a few weeks or months. Most functional ovarian cysts resolve on their own, and sometimes I can tell when one bursts (I want them to burst and go away.... I did have one, about 20 years ago, that became huge and vascular, and when it ruptured it bled a bit....so I did have a laproscopy for that one because the pain and tenderness was extreme. The sonogram that I had in February to diagnose my fibroids showed that I had 4 on my right ovary and 3 on my left ovary. Still, when I had my hysterectomy, the doctor left my ovaries as we discussed because even with the cysts my ovaries looked pretty good....the gyn did clean up a bit around my L ovary where one had recently ruptured.

So, even though I've had a TAH, I know I'll still have to deal with the cysts. Most of the time, taking ibuprofen eases the pain for me.

I'm glad to read that you'll be getting a sonogram on Friday. I hope your pain eases soon!

possible cyst's?

Thanks 's

I feel alot better this morning! I am wondering.. Can you get these painful cyst every time you have a cycle? It seems maybe you would only get them once in a while. I cant wait to go to thr Dr. and try to get to bottom of my problems. My Dr. asked... have you got you bowels regular? (never have been) I said no. It could be the bowels. I will get help until I figure out the problem!! If this doesnt pan out to a GI specialist I go. I just love going to the Dr. Thanks again and I am just glad today is better than yesturday.

Anyway, do you take the pill to help? how often do yours bother you? I am experiencing pain every other month, It used to last a day or two. Now it is lasting a week or two. I get crampy then extreme pain the slowly goes away and feel bloated and uncomfortable for a week or two. I got stomache problem on IB after my surgery, What would you take? Tylenol? I have hear IB 800, prescription is not like over the counter IB?!? maybe I will see if he will call that in? This is all new for me, I am going crazy lately, we are leaving next week on vac. I sure hope I feel better. I am tempted to take the pill to see if that helps. Hope you can tell me a little since you have experienced this to! Thank you and hope all is well.

possible cyst's?

Hi Hoogie,

The pain from my cysts has always varied depending on how big a cyst I was dealing with. I did take BCP for several years, and that did suppress the type of cyst I get because mine only form at ovulation. I have not been on BCP for over ten years now. Ibuprofen has worked for me, but I wouldn't suggest you try ibuprofen without your Doc's guidance because of your IBS. If you can take Tylenol then maybe you could try that. Since I've come off my bcp I've had more good months than bad, but the bad months when I did have pain were quite painful.....sometimes I'd have a week or more of soreness and pressure that radiated to my back, and sometimes just a few days of being very tender.

Since my hysterectomy, I've had two days where the old familiar soreness returned. It wasn't too bad and it did go away...so I'm doing ok as far as my ovaries go...at least so far.

You'll probably get a better idea about the type of ovarian cyst you have when you see your doctor on Tuesday. I know it's hard to wait, but there are different types of cysts and the different types respond to different treatments.

Hang in there, I'll be sending you get well wishes so you can feel good for your vacation!

possible cyst's?

bitslbt,
Thanks again I think the irregular bowels are due to ovulation and the cyst's, I always return to normal about 1/2 way through the week of my cycle. I will just have to wait til Tues. to get to the bottom of this! It is so hard to wait! Feeling better, but no better. Know what I mean? Keep posting and have a nice weekend!
