Husband wants to understand

My doctor has given the "green light" for a Laparoscopic Hysterectomy. On 8/15/03 I will have a sonohystogram (sonogram with a cathetyr of saline solution) as documentation for my insurance company. My husband knows that I will be "thrown into menopause", and since I only have an "idea" of what this will be like, there is, of course, no way he can have any clue of what to expect. He is SO sweet that he said he will have to read up on what to expect so that he'll understand better when that time comes. Does anyone know of any source that he can turn to to better understand? I can NOT wait to get my life back! Hopefully Old Aunt Flo, who came a knockin' yesterday, will never haunt me again if my doctor's schedule will permit! This is, at times, pure hell - physically and emotionally. I literally thank God for this site - when people write "you are not alone" it is meant from the heart because it is a kinship that we share. Because it is one begun due to pain and we are at a desperate point, it is so appreciated and respected. Aside from God, it is the biggest comfort. I appreciate any and all suggestions of where my husband can turn, and all of you are in my prayers.

Take care,

Rana

Why not start with letting him search this site?

Good luck! I'll be thinking of you.

hi

if timing and schedules permit, you might want to schedule a consult appt with your surgeon so your husband can have a question and answer session with his/her..........and like the other poster said, he's more than welcome to browse this site.......hope all goes well............*diana*

Wishing you the best

I send to you my prayers and wishes for a speedy and uneventful recovery. I am confident other sisters will direct you and your thoughtful husband to a post for your inquiry. In terms of my own experience, the second or third day of my stay in the castle, I was given a HRT patch of 0.1 mg/day of Climara. Without the patch I experienced the infamous "hot flashes" - Major sweating to be followed by an extreme cold feeling. After having the patch applied, I no longer experienced any symptons. Was told by my DR that I must take HRT until age 51 or so and she will of course moniter the effects. I have been so focused on walking and taking care of my healing that I forgot about the menoause issue as I do not even realize I am experiencing it!!! I recommend discussing the HRt with your surgeon. Best wishes and hugs.

Rana

There is a web site with a lot of info and graphics if you are interested in checking it out send me a PM.

It's nice to know there are DH's out there like mine, willing to learn what is involved so they can be more supportive to us when we will need it most.

All the best,
Donna

Husband wants to understand

Hi

My sweetie found the book "No, It's Not Hot In Here" by **** Roth helpful. It is a Husband's guide to understanding menopause. He says it's not a bad read and eyeopenning. I believe it is also humerous.

This site has been great for both of us.
He just told me for your husband. "Trust her and believe her cause some of this stuff is hard to believe until to starte going through it."
I have found Christiane Northrup MD. book Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom informative and interesting.

Best Wishes and Good healing. Good man to your Sweetie.

Rana,
I'm still new to all of this, it's so confusing. I love the fact that your DH is willing to be invovled in the process. I like the idea of finding some reading for him to do (I'm going to fin the "No it's not hot in here" book for mine). My DH has been to every DR appt with me and has asked lots of questions - if you feel comfortable with having yours present during your next appt I would recommend having him in. Sometimes mine asks questions that I have forgotten or haven't even thought of! Good luck to you on your journey.
