Can I keep this a secret

I do not feel like talking to anyone (friends, collegues, people I just know) about my private parts.
I told my husband and will tell my mother (she lives nearby and is used to be visited daily).
For all the others I will be sick. Or have no time.
Weird?

Re: Can I keep this a secret

Hi loc - welcome to the site! I don't think this is weird at all....I told very few people. I consider it my business, my body, and up to me who I tell. I totally understand where you're coming from!

Re: Can I keep this a secret

I told very few. I said I was off work for "health issues". Most didn't know I'd had surgery. I'm just private that way. Am I weird? Well maybe but its my business.

Re: Can I keep this a secret

I don't think it is weird at all. I told my family and a select few others in my life. This is a very private surgery for some people and it is your body and your choice as to who you tell. Do what you feel is right for you. Best of luck.

Re: Can I keep this a secret

I was a very private person who got embarrassed easily when talking about anything personal, but I've noticed that since the surgery I feel comfortable talking about it. I didn't tell many people prior, but ended up telling a few closer friends after. And I'm willing to talk about it in detail to those who are interested.
Most of your friends will want to help if you tell them and there may be a day you need it.
Do whatever is best for you and your comfort level.
Take care.

Re: Can I keep this a secret

i aslo kept it pretty quiet...only those who i thought needed to know!!
it was private issue for me.a few days before i went in i told a few of my neighbors who i would want to know if they were having sugery.
you have to do what works best for you..... and you have to let others have the rite to worry....

Re: Can I keep this a secret

You are not weird. I only told a few friends, one person at work and family, all the others I'm just saying I'm having some medical stuff done. Most people understand and won't go into details.

Re: Can I keep this a secret

You have every right to be private! I've only told two of my four siblings, and not my mom yet. I'll tell the rest afterwards. As for work, I'm only telling them I'm having surgery and will be out for a couple weeks. They don't need to know.

Re: Can I keep this a secret

I only told people I wanted to tell, which wasn't a whole lot of folks. I'm a very private person and don't like to make my health a topic of conversation as I feel it's my own business. I will discuss health issues if I think relating my experiences can help (such as on Hystersisters) but otherwise I tend to stay quiet.

Re: Can I keep this a secret

You should handle this in the way that makes you most comfortable. You don't owe anyone an explanation. I am terrible at keeping secrets and I told my family, my husband's family, my friends. I did not announce it on facebook or anything so not too bad. My mother had this surgery 30 years ago and she was very open about it. She liked all the attention and sympathy - god knows she wasn't going to get it from my father lol. I think I was more anxious to tell people because I have been walking around looking 5 months pregnant and I was relieved at having an excuse for the bloated belly. I think having some mystery surrounding you is just as good of a tactic though!
