surgery in 9 days
Hello everyone,
My surgery is scheduled for June 11th and although I'm happy to be on my way,I still get weepy about it all-and I feel stupid because I can cry at the tip of a hat.
Ive bee wanting a hysterectomy for 8 years!Ever since my first period at age 13,(I'm 46)I've had heavy bleeding, pms, etc
4 years ago i had an ablation-and that didn't really take,so basically I still had the bloat cramps, etc and bled for only 2 days as opposed to 5.
I'm having the DaVinci hysterectomy with removal of cervix. The one thing i am most concern about, for the time being is the bowel prep-can I do it early in the day? would that be a good idea?and then clear liquids day before surgery-
anyway I'm glad I joined, talk to you soon

Re: surgery in 9 days
Hi!
So glad you found us. Sorry that I can't answer the question about the prep, I didn't have to do one. i'm sure someone else will be along shortly to help out tho.
Remember to drink lots of liquids up until your cut off time, Being well hydrated will help you out with the IV and the anesthesia. Also try to start drinking in recovery too. I found cranberry juice was wonderfully delicious after surgery!

Re: surgery in 9 days
Excuse for not know exactly how to use this site-
thank you ladies for your comments .your very wise about the hydrating before surgery and I can imagine cranberry juice will taste great.I'm have put myself on a salt restricted diet because my ankles are swollen and my hands too.My Dr said too much sodium,sooo...
Ive been kinda naughty buying myself I feel sorry for myself treats, new eyeliner, lip gloss-And this is the one surgery I wanted and yet I feel a mix of excited and nervous and sad that I have to go through this, but I know this is the best thing so reading everyone's post to me is so nice and not only gives me warm and fuzzies ,it is also giving me the strength I need to go forward, and return such a great favor. And to my other friend(I'm sorry) I not happy about bowel prep or liquid diet, but glad that my surgery is scheduled early and I'm gonna look at it as a first step to being on a diet and eating healthier, kinda like a cleanse haaha..ewww

Re: surgery in 9 days
Oh I just read about about swelling also being a result of dehydration! Who knew!
there is a neat site (can't post links here) about how much water you should drink, I think it is called hydration calculator ( fyi it asks about pregnancy and breastfeeding)

Re: surgery in 9 days
Hello ladies, So glad that you found us! So glad that I found you guys too! I love to jump on this board once a day and read your concerns and thought, because i catch myself saying to the computer. YES, I hear ya! or I know I feel the same way. I am sure that my computer thinks that I am looney by now! Anyway good to know about being dehyrated. I am afraid that I may throw up. Who knows. I have not gone for my Preop yet at the hospital. So what is the bowl prep? is that were you need to exhaust your bowels? I wish I could give you more into, but sounds like you will be able to help me out more since you go first! Have a great day today!

Re: surgery in 9 days
thanks sue yes that could be true,I dont like to drink water so now I am making more of an effort to try and stay hydrated-plus Im trying to hit the gym every day before surgery
To panda..Yes a bowel prep is to clean your bowels or as you said it exhaust your bowels ,to avoid complications.I heard it can make your tush sore from wiping so much so I'm buying those personal wipes that are flushable, they might even be good after surgery.Yes,I'm making plans for next week..Monday out to dinner,Tuesday movies,Wednesday bowel prep:-(Thursday clear liquids and going no where and Friday is Surgery
