feeling great, 3.5 weeks out

Sorry I haven't wrote much, but I wanted to share how amazing I feel. For over ten years I have been uncomfortable. Bad periods, constipation, a constant headache, back pain, funny smell from my hands, bad taste in my mouth. I have seen GI specialists that told me I had IBS. I saw neurologists for my headaches. Every minute of every day I have been uncomfortable for a very long time. When I would tell my OBGYN this he/she would always tell me to take birth control. My husband had a vasectomy and I didn't believe it was a good idea. Finally I got my obgyn to do an ultrasound. Three large fibroids were found, 13cm each.

I had an abdominal hystectomy and I wish I had done it ten years ago. Don't get me wrong the first week was hell! Each day after the sugery got better and better.

I want to include that I am an avid runner(averaging 7 miles a day) and when I came to this website I was looking for someone else who could tell me their recovery time was quick, that they felt amazing, better than ever, that they started running soon after. Well I never found that encouragement. So I'm here to tell all you girls... This was the best thing I could have ever done. Three and a half weeks out of surgery, I feel like I could take on the world. Although I am following doctors orders and will wait for the 6 week check-up. I FEEL GREAT! No more problems! No headache, no constipation, I can empty my bladder normal now, my back feels great, I have color in my face again....I could go on and on about how different I feel.

The best thing I have ever done! Don't live with those nasty fibroids!

also I had a great surgeon, that never answered my questions, and always rushed me out of her office. She did good work, but don't really like her. I guess that is normal for surgeons, but very unfortunate!

Re: feeling great, 3.5 weeks out

My migraines are gone finally! And overall I am doing well. But still have a quite a ways before I am feeling wonderful. ;-)

I had some issues with infection in my scar, and i just seem to be a little slow to heal, but that is ok. One day at a time!

Re: feeling great, 3.5 weeks out

I am so glad that you are doing well!!! Congrats!! I too have had a good recovery! I am please with the results!! I was walking between 20 to 24 miles a wk prior to surgery. I will be 8 wks post-op on Thursday, and I had been back to 20 to 24 miles at 5 wks, just a slower pace. Yes, I used to run until I blew my hip out and had to get steriod shots in the hip. 13 miles at a time. I was walking 2.5 miles at a time at the 2nd wk post-op.

There are women on this site stating that they feel better than ever..I am one of them. I have the energy that I used to, and don't have the pain that I have had for years. Please do pace yourself. You want to stay feeling good. Congrats on the surgery results!! You will be back running soon!! I wish everyone could have the recovery that I have had. It has far exceeded my expectations!

Re: feeling great, 3.5 weeks out

I just had my TAH (kept ovaries) on sept 14th for large fibroids. Is that why I have had zero energy the last year or so?? I coudln't figure out what I had. I had to take 2 hour naps every day I was so exhausted. I can't even nap that long now , 1 week post op! I do hope there is hope for me too!

Re: feeling great, 3.5 weeks out

Shell38 Im with yougirl!! Had my LAVH same day as you.....My dr. let me go back to gym after my 2 wk ckk up. I was doing 1hr and 50 min on elliptical daily.... plus weight training 4 days a week. He just told me to start SLOW on elliptical and no squats, or stomach work until 6 wk Did 20 minutes today!! Slow of course....... And the weights Im doing are bascially just going through the motions. Said no more than 20 pd on anything. But when your active it helps SO much to just "go through the motions" until you can start picking it back up. Said I could skip my 4 wk ckup and would see me at 6 wks! ) Im like you..... couldnt find anyone on here at first that was intersted in how soon they could get back to their exercise..... So glad your doing GREAT and you will be back running before you know it!!
