Hello Sisters!
I am 11 days post-op and still taking a stool softner twice a day. I seem to be pretty regular now How long after surgery did you continue taking them?

Stool softner...embarrassing question...

I would take a chance and skip 1 dose and see what happens. Then slowly stop taking them all together. Just make sure you continue to drink a lot of water and dose up on the fiber (fruits vegies and beans).
I am not taking them....been 3 days and everything is okay.

Don't continue to take them for too long because your body will become addicted to them and will always need them just to go. call your doctor and ask for other suggestions. good luck!

Stool softner...embarrassing question...

Hi dtoney
I took them for several months, but I had a rectocele and didn't have such an easy time keeping things normal. If you are doing well I agree it might not hurt to cut back and see what happens. You just don't want to make it difficult at all.
I'm glad you seem to be doing well.
Drake, is that what your dr told you? I asked mine and he said there was no problem taking them long term

After my hyst, the dr was very clear about being on them for too long was dangerous when it came to getting off them ...unless there is a situation that calls for them like yours preciouspearl.

I took them for atleast two weeks, may have been three. Then skipped them slowly thereafter. No problems at all now. Hope that helps.

I took them for weeks, I am still drinking prune juice each day as I cant go without anymore - do you think I might have a problem? I thought it was because I am still not up to 100% with exercises etc.

I took them for nearly 4 weeks, although were a mild form, and no problems getting off them.
