Recovering from hysterectomy - 3 weeks post-op with burning in vagina

I had my hysterectomy 3 weeks ago and was fine the first week or so but now at 3 weeks I have burning in my vagina and it is very uncomfortable and sore. I am in a lot of pain. I wanted to know if anyone has experienced this? And what it might be? Thanks

Re: Recovering from hysterectomuy - 3 weeks post-op with burning in vagina

I'm thinking one of two possibilities just off the top of my head. First could be a yeast or some other vaginal infection. Usually there are some other signs to a yeast infection, like a cottage cheese type discharge and itching.

The second (which happened to me) is vaginal dryness caused by a hormone imbalance. Even though you kept your ovaries, they might not yet be up to speed on producing hormones, perhaps giving you a few menopause-type symptoms. I switched to unperfumed soap and used coconut oil in the shower to moisturize the area.

The fact that you're in pain from this, to me, is a concern. Give your doctor's office a call. They'll know the right questions to ask.

Thanks for the reply. I did go in a few days ago and do have a uti that is being treated, but it is still bothering me. I was wondering about dryness and hormone imbalance. Calling the Dr. tomorrow.

Totally have had the same thing happening for the past few days. worse than any post op pain. I will be going to my doctor also. I kind of feel it is a UTI, but I am so dry and sore there. I have tried everything for Desitin to A & D ointment.

I was not a yeast infection.

Mine was a UTI at first, but I went today and now have a yeast infection without the yeast. I forget what he called it. Also my tail bone is killing me and my hips. He figured it all may be related to nerves. I. am going to start on some other meds. Let me know what your Dr said.
