I'm freaking out. Surgery is tomorrow. Laying here thinking and over thinking
Afraid of waking up in pain or not at all. Anyone have any advice to help calm my nerves.

Re: Nervous wreck

Hi Cat, nice to meet you

I don't think there is a sister out there who wasn't anxious as her surgery date/time approached.
The best advice that I can give you is to try to think of positive things. Before you know it, you will be in recovery and on your way to mending. We will all be here and waiting for you. This community has been a complete Godsend for me.

You will be just fine and in good hands.
Take care

I hope you get this before your surgery, I had surgery June 10,2015 and I also was so nervous..I know everybody is different but, for me it was so much easier than I was expecting..just remember except help..I've really enjoyed taken a break from household chores..take your meds like the doctor says and you will be fine..thinking of you today..

Re: Nervous wreck

i will be in ur shoes when my time comes. everything ive read says to try and stay calm and think positive. stressing and worrying isnt going to help but i know its so hard not to do. im trying to think of it like a vacation where i dont have to do anything at all no cooking no cleaning just lounging and reading books or playing on the computer or having marathons of my favorite shows and movies i wish u the best!

I will have my surgery 7/31 so I'm not there yet. However I'm sure I will feel the same way. Trust that the doc you've chosen will do great, therefore u will do great. Say a prayer, think positive or whatever u believe works for u. Sending nothing but good & happy thoughts your way!

It is perfectly normal to be anxious, I was too.
Try to keep busy today, the day will go by fast.
I woke up in pain and no problem - they gave me pain medication right after I woke up into my iv and I was ok.
After the surgery you will go to the post operative care unit for a bit and they are very trained to look for pain and give you medication.

Good luck!

Re: Hysterectomy tomorrow 6/25: Nervous wreck

I totally understand being nervous. I had my surgery on May 28th.... vertical incision for a very large fibroid. I think I was more nervous the few weeks before than the last few days as I told myself..... soon you will feel great! My surgery took four hours, an hour more than expected because of the size of the tumor. I can remember everything and all the nice staff up until right before the surgery and then I woke up. For me it felt like a ten minute nap. I feel like the hardest part at first was getting up and down! I had great help and kind people helping me. I am not even four weeks post surgery and I feel great! I wanted to let you know that so that you hear some positive stories. I have a dance studio and week three for me was the last week of the season. I actually went in each night and watched my students during their "parent shows". My recital for my students was three weeks and one day after surgery. I did not dance in the show but I did go on the stage and present awards and give all my thanks to those that deserved it. I was out of my house from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. Everyday I feel better and better. I am wishing you the best of luck tomorrow!
