Shock of my Life!
Well, I went in for my consult today with my list of ?'s (many of which had been crossed out because of all of you!) Well, after telling Dr. that I'm bleeding 2 wks. now, he said, "Let's take a look at your belly... Whoooa! This thing is huge!" Long story short......he was very surprised at how it had grown. He then did an ultrasound (from 6 cm. in July to 15 cm. today) Originally my surgery had been scheduled for Aug. 11th. I've been feeling sorry for myself for having to wait so long (because of work). Well, it's going to happen MONDAY! I'm happy to get it all over with, but overwhelmed with getting all the pre-op things done, get things ready at home, and probably most of all--work... I have a group of 16 teenagers coming from 5 countries for 3 months. They don't live with me, but I'm their teacher, chaperone, activity coordinator, and temporary "mom" during their stay. They arrive April 12th, a week after my surgery. So you can imagine the stress of being away at this time.
Tomorrow I have to tell my boss. I think I'll send an e-mail instead....... I'm hyper...

Shock of my Life!
I can totally relate to what you are going through! I had my appt. on Fri. and had the TAH/BSO on Monday. Even though I was running around like crazy, in the long run I think it was better that I did not have much time to obsess about it. I didn't have a group of teenagers to entertain when I got back though! Good luck. I will be thinking about you.

Shock of my Life!
Wow! That's the way to do it - less worry time! I would have been estatic if I could have had mine scheduled that quickly but yes, it's mind-boggling when you think of all you have to get ready ahead of time.
Set your priorities, do what you can, then don't worry about the rest. Best wishes for your Monday date!

Good heavens! That is a massive shock! I'm so happy for you and in such awe of your project, because teenagers are wonderful people.
I know you can't do this, but try to take it easy and rest as much as you can. I'll pray for you, too. And your family and your boss.

Shock of my Life!
I can totaly understand! I was planning on surgery in Janaury but saw my Dr in September due to increase in pain and the growth of my fibroids. Well, at my Friday, 4:00 pm appointment I found that my CA125 test had come back with the result pointing to possible cnacer. I was hospitilized on Sunday and went to surgery on Monday!
Everything turned out fine but it was a challenge to cancel everthing and get ready in less than 36 hours. I read other womens planning notes and just laugh! When you have only a short time, you do just what is necessary to get your self in the right place. My Dh really had to pick up the everything else but really stepped up t help.
Looking back, it was the best for all. I did not have to stress to much and my family handled everything just fine.
I had the same problems with my most recent surgery. I got a call on Thursday that I was going back into surgery on Monday. I did not even tell most people about the surgery which caused a problem when I ended up with 2 surgeries in 2 days. A short hospital stay ended up to be three day!
Good luck and my thoughts will be with you.

Shock of my Life!
Finallyready...
I totally understand what you are going through!
I had no idea I even had fibroid at all.
I just tought my periods were changing.
I was anemic as well but didn't know, had pica, restless legs, out of breath, tinnitus.
When my doctor felt me, he said the same thing.
I didn't even know what fibroids where...it was 14 cm then.
When I saw the specialist a month later, it was 20 cm. He doesn't think it actually grew, he just tought it was the way the 2 ultrasounds were taken.
Now on lupron, bleeding and waiting.

Shock of my Life!
Man I so understand about the whole 'work thing'. My bosses both understand about my hyster because they both went thru it themselves, BUT they are stressing over my medical leave and they let me know it. We are are short 1 person and still training 2 others. Plus, we have so much work to do we need to hire 3 more people and the interviews have not been going well. I do worry but that takes a back seat to my health. What my body is going thru is a lot more important to me then my job. Not to mention I am a paper pusher and answer question of the phone a lot from other co-workers. Not too exciting is it.
Good Luck with your teenages---I'm sure they will understand. I know my teenages [my kids] understand.

Thank You!
Thank you all for your words of encouragement. I've pretty much got everything settled at work...well as much as possible anyway--so now it's time to get ready. I'm not feeling so "hyper" now...just the waiting game.
I had my pre op yesterday and it was a breeze. They just drew blood. They didn't send anything home with me in regards to bowel prep or "shaving instructions" as so many on this site have mentioned. Until 2 days ago I had been VERY constipated for a few days--probably from the mega iron doses I've been taking. It doesn't usually happen, but it did. I went to the store and bought a fleet enema, and what do you know--it worked! Funny thing--I didn't have to actually USE it--just buy it! Do you think I should use it tomorrow, even though my dr. didn't order it? Things have been "moving" normally yesterday and today, but I don't want an embarassing scene in the OR! (Not that I'd even know about it...) I'm not going to shave either--I already shave it pretty far down. Maybe that's good enough for TAH. I suppose they'll do it if necessary.
I'm fighting a cold... It "wants" to come but I'm warding it off... I woke up with a bit of a sore throat and I've had a headache & been sneezing and a little mucousy (sp?) all day. Nothing allowed except for Tylenol at this point. I do NOT want this surgery postponed because I'm sick!

I don't think that you should use the fleet unless your doctor tells you to. As far as shaving, they'll do it if it is necessary (for an abdominal hyst, they just shave down an inch or less--probably a lot less, but I can't remember from my 2000 op!
