TAH: Palpitations?

I have had issues with PVCs for the last three years. The docs say it's benign, and I don't really know if they're related to heavy bleeding. Mostly I'm worried about anesthesia with an irregular heartbeat. I'm getting an EKG first, but I was hoping one of you ladies may have had a similar experience. I'm pretty afraid of the anesthetic.

They will take good care of you. I too have PVC's and a heart Murmur. My EKG was normal and I did fine during the surgery as far as my heart goes. Don't worry they know what they are doing.

I've been worried about the same thing. Sometimes my palpitations are very bad. With all this bleeding I've been doing lately, they seem to have gotten worse. But I keep telling myself that I'm not the first person to go through this, with my symptoms, and they'll know what to do. Yes, that's me trying to convince myself!!

I totally understand. I have mitral valve prolapse and my heart palpitates all the time. I have been so worried about the anesthetic too. I had an ekg and an echocardiogram last week. Everything checked out fine so I am good to go. As the date approaches, I'm just trying not to think too much. That makes it worse for me. Hi Sisters - I have a mitral valve prolapse that causes various symptoms and has on and off for a number of years. Prior to my TAH in July things got very bad so off to the cardiologist. EKGs, stress test, echo, etc., everything checked out and I went back on a low dose beta blocker for the first time in many years. I was terrified about the surgery and anesthesia with my heart, but the cardiologist, anesthesiologist and surgeon all told me I would be fine and that they could manage any symptoms I might have.

I came through surgery fine. My bp was low in the recovery room, but went back to normal for the rest of my hospital stay. I did have some symptoms again a few weeks after surgery (high bp, tachycardia, etc) which were due to hormonal fluctuation, but things settled back to normal after I started on estrogen. During a post surgery check at the cardiologist they told me that menopause/hormonal fluctuations and pain can trigger various symptoms, but they can be controlled with medication, diet, exercise, supplements, etc. I've felt much better as I am healing and my symptoms are under control. Just wanted to let you know some good news from the other side. As long as your Drs know what is going on, they'll help you get through the surgery, and you may even find your heart symptoms getting better as you heal. Thank you so much calnative. That makes me feel better. I think when you have mvp, you are more aware of every little flutter. I can put myself in a full blown panic attack. I'm glad to know that you did so well. Just counting down now. Thanks for sharing.
