shoveling at 6 weeks after LAVH

Its snowing like crazy here - very light snow but piling up. We are expecting about a foot by morning.

I've told my neighbors that I'll be slacking off on the shoveling for the next month, and I lined up a neighbor kid to dig out my car tomorrow, but I did do some shoveling so I won't get totally trapped in my house. I tried to keep it to small shovel-fulls. But now I'm wondering if that was stupid because it really is lifting from the ground. I was feeling it in my back but not in my belly, tho my belly is buzzing a little now.

My Dr. said I would have no restrictions after 8 weeks, and she cleared me to lift up to 25 lbs at my 2 week checkup.

Does anyone know if I was ok to do this light shoveling today? I tried calling my Drs office, but the whole city is shut down and no one was there. Is there anything I should be aware of? Am I a total idiot or am I over reacting?

What I would worry about would be the possiblity of a hernia. Just to be safe, don't do any shoveling at all. If you're concerned about the little bit you've already done, or if you should feel any new pain, please call your doctor. :windy:

I would not be shoveling yet either (I am 6 weeks out). It is not worth turning the wrong way & hurting something. You only get one chance at a great recovery! If you can I would pay a neighbor kid to do it if you can. I know it is hard not to do those things but better safe than sorry. Best wishes.

You can't always not shovel snow, but take it easy. Use a smaller shovel than you would normally use and stop every 10 minutes to see how you are feeling. I could see doing the walk, but leave the driveway to others. I'm in the same pickle, and we have more snow coming. I live in a building and I have an outdoor parking spot so the big stuff is done, but even the pile on both sides of the car are a challenge. I pulled my hip muscle last week trying to get the groceries out of the car over a snowbank. Just take it easy and know when you have done enough.

Hang in there, only 4 more months of snow to go. Sigh!!

Yes, just please be very careful. In small amounts you will probably be ok. I am lucky & have people who are going to do it for me. Best wishes! Stay safe.

normally I am the person who does the extra shoveling since I work at home and some of my neighbors have little ones, plus I kind of enjoy it! All us girls in the neighborhood are out there (the men here don't often shovel!) Its the one time of year I get to really "be with" some of them.

I got up this morning to see that 12 inches did come (you should see the dome on top of my webber kettle! - it looks like Marge Simpson) My fabulous buddies next door dug us out right out to the street (we are on an alley) even including the walk to my door! I feel so loved every time they do that.

I promise to go easy. Maybe just keep it to sweeping off my car.
Maybe whipping up some cookie dough.
Another storm is coming tomorrow ...
