Saying thank you

I had an appointment with my GP a few days ago to get a prescription renewed. I hadn't seen her since a couple weeks before my surgery in May, so I asked if she'd received a copy of the post-op pathology report. It turned out that she hadn't, so I gave her a verbal summary. Stage 1A, minimal invasion of the uterine wall, no cancer found outside the uterus.

Then I said thank you! When I'd seen her back in January and mentioned I was having a bit of post-menopausal bleeding, I'd been inclined to blow it off. She got in my face about it and was insistent that I needed to be referred to a gyn immediately. It's the gyn who eventually discovered that I had endometrial cancer.

I thanked my GP for being so insistent and for taking such fast action. Because of her and my gyn (who also got in my face on the same issue) my cancer was discovered at a very early stage.

My GP seemed very happy to hear my news, but she also looked considerably surprised at being thanked! I guess this doesn't happen often - and I think that's a shame. Good doctors need love too. :-)

Re: Saying thank you

I couldn't agree more! I have an amazing GP and GYN. I tell them all the time exactly why I am thankful for them. Too often people only speak when they have a complaint. That's not good. I'm glad you told your doc thanks!

Re: Saying thank you

That was very nice of you. We do tend to forget to be grateful sometimes towards our Drs. (it's their job right?) (At least I do at times anyways) I had my surgery at a different hospital than I normally go to as I was referred to a gyn/onc there. At my post op appt at 5 1/2 weeks, I gave my gyn/onc and her physicians asst. each a card and a couple magnets I had made while I was recovering. They opened them after I left. I did this because I (hopefully) will probably never see them again and wanted to be sure they knew I appreciated what they had done for me. I only met them in person 3 times, but I will always be grateful - they were truely very compassionate towards me and got me through my journey! Anyways, just wanted to share my "thankful" story. I wish you all the best!

ps I recieved an email from the PA a couple later that afternoon - they both really liked the magnets!
